It was more than a slip
I called them what they actually are
These aren't genuine LC patients, they are a nest of malicious haters looking to cause as much damage as possible
They don't have solutions, just coordinated malice
I ought to have known better. But I was jetlagged and really hurt
The CSA in Canada put forth a recommendation that respirators be used in healthcare to prevent COVID and other airborne diseases.
It’s a recommendation that would save lives.
Yet managers of hospital infection control programs are fighting back on it.
Disgusting.
This list—predominantly managers of hospital infection control programs—are undermining revisions to a Canadian standard for workplace respirator personal protective equipment (PPE) that would improve safety grounded in science and engineering. /1

Today's Private Eye magazine:
Covid Airborne Transmission Alliance, "CATA believes the government is guilty of downplaying the airborne transmission risk of SARS-CoV-2 virus, and other airborne pathogens, therefore not providing the correct protective equipment for staff".
FFP3s needed.

I'm fed up with hearing Government responses saying that air filters are no substitute for ventilation whilst providing neither good ventilation nor air filters to school classrooms.
I say in reply:
Lies are no substitute for the truth.
Ineptitude is no substitute for knowledge.
A lot of news from Covid inquiry blaming lockdown for people not being able to see relatives in care settings.
The truth is; airborne transmission was covered up & Gov't hadn't properly prepared for an airborne pandemic.
People could have done this entirely safely with the right mitigations.

What's also true is that if this happens again, the same mistakes will be made.
They're still not honest about airborne transmission.
They're still not prepared for an airborne pandemic.
Also true is that we are still in the Covid airborne pandemic because of these failings.

@keithedwards.bsky.social hey Keith… I’m the person who’s post you put on X in an attempt to dunk on maskers & Bluesky.
I wanted to let you know I make no money for my advocacy. I’ve been talking about mask bans for well over a year in an attempt to save lives.
My post was 100% genuine.
Poor air quality is an invisible workplace hazard.
Let’s stop pretending it’s not there.

UK friends, there's a petition that I'd really like to see supported so that it gets discussed in Parliament.
It demands better air quality & PPE standards in health & social care.
It would help every one of us but needs more signatures before May 11th.

Nobody should be more unsafe when seeking healthcare or receiving social care.
It is really important to everyone - even if you have signed it, please pass to family, friends, work colleagues etc because the signatures can really quickly add up - but people need to know.

Let’s say this loud and clear:
Exercise is not the goal, recovery is the goal so one can exercise.

Still not wrong, just early.
Ignoring Covid infections is a giant mistake.
We should be preventing them.
Long Covid is very real & very serious and still a significant risk to all.
The pandemic is continuing whether you ignore it or not.
It's not lockdowns; it's infections.
FAFO.
I did a bit more digging about a recent BBC news article about how installing air quality monitors had a 'dramatic' effect on health.
It is an initiative by @sthelenscouncil (X a/c) and @WarringtonBC (X a/c) called the Healthy Air for Healthy Lungs project.
So what's it all about?...

We need more stuff like this and so thanks to all involved and to those reading on, please share, look at the details and try to persuade your own local authorities to copy and build upon this great work.
We need clean air in all public spaces.
Everyone will benefit.

So why are we not doing this in schools & healthcare settings @AshleyDalton_MP @bphillipsonMP @wesstreeting (X accounts)?
These are easy wins.
Improving indoor air quality is cheap and cost-saving and will result in fewer illnesses.
Most likely therefore...fewer disabilities too of course.
8/
If people understand it, they will demand it.
I noted this in a thread 38 months ago (see below).
There needs to be a focus on education, on the truth, the benefits and done together with the right support. This could be a victory & it's being ignored.

Now here's the thing;
This deals with kids who are already suffering respiratory conditions.
There are plenty who will succumb to the same and this is largely preventable by focusing on indoor air quality; not just at home - but at school. Where kids spend a lot of time.
6/
It's been proven here that given the kit, guidance, support and most importantly the knowledge to know what actions to take can make a HUGE difference to health of kids and their families.
It can lower the burden on healthcare too.
It will improve health & save money.

Families are adopting air quality improvements, leading to a "dramatic and positive impact on the health of young children, with reduced need for inhalers and fewer hospital visits".
Shows me that there are health benefits and cost savings here - as would be expected.
4/
Noted in the BBC article is that these monitors "can identify changes in virus risk".
The pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together.
I applaud this initiate.
It could be further improved with air filtration devices supplied too.
@du_health (X a/c) here to help if needed.

The program targets households with kids aged 2 to 10 who have respiratory conditions.
Applicants get a home assessment of their IAQ situation.
Participants get advice on how to improve their home's air quality; guidance on cooking, cleaning, heating and ventilation practices.
2/
St Helens Council distributed 150 monitors and has a waiting list for new applications.
Shows me that when people embrace & understand the benefits of clean air, there's a demand for it.
Feedback has been extremely positive.
IAQ sensors give people info they can act upon.

'Dramatic' effect of air quality monitors
"It's clearly having a dramatic & positive impact on the health of young children, with reduced need for inhalers and fewer hospital visits recorded by parents and guardians."
Clean air indoors benefits everyone.

Most folk understand that HIV is very harmful long after the acute infection.
Most people think that Covid does nothing at all after acute infection.
The difference in understanding, I fear, could just be time.
It took many years for this to be widely acknowledged for HIV.
