It’s not just the scale of the money. It’s also the character of the people making the donations which is extremely worrying - as I argued in this thread over the summer ⬇️

The Telegraph just gave a convicted criminal a two-page spread to explain why he's pumping £4 million into Reform UK. They tucked his criminal record away in the small print. So as a former financial crime specialist I’ll do their job for them👇

From leading a cross-party group to root out corruption in our politics and economy, to shouting as loud as I can in the Commons Chamber so your voices are heard. Here’s a day in the life representing the great people of Bolton, Westhoughton, Horwich and Blackrod 👇

It’s exactly this kind of behaviour which undermines trust in Parliament and which I was keen to call out in last week’s House of Lords reform debate in Westminster Hall. Check out my contribution here ⬇️

Since his ennoblement in Boris Johnson’s 2023 resignation list, Tees Valley regional mayor Lord (Ben) Houchen has claimed more than £25,000 in tax-free daily “attendance” allowances from the House of Lords for 73 days when he hasn’t voted, spoken or performed any recorded parliamentary activity.

Thank you @mbdauk.bsky.social for your continued investment in Bolton. More jobs, more investment, more opportunities for my constituents & a vital contribution to our collective security.

🇬🇧 Pleased to welcome Luke Pollard MP, NAD Rupert Pearce and Phil Brickell to #Bolton. 🏭 The visit showcased our expansion to double our #manufacturing footprint, boost production and invest in our people. Together, we’re securing the #UK’s sovereign #defence advantage.

Yet another example of close co-operation between the UK & Germany creating jobs, driving investment and leading to new opportunities across both our countries.

Military barrel production returns to the UK thanks to 🇩🇪🇬🇧 ties. I joined Defence Secretary Wes Streeting as he opened Rheinmetall's Gun Hall in Telford, creating highly-skilled jobs. Powerful example of 🇩🇪🇬🇧 cooperation, based on the #KensingtonTreaty.

These comments from US envoy Steve Witkoff are a complete betrayal to the innocent victims - men, women and children - of Putin’s unlawful and barbaric war of aggression in Ukraine. That’s what happens when you let crony property developers take charge of your diplomacy. #slavaukraini

APPG on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax@anticorruption-responsibletax.org

Today the APPG held its 2026 AGM, attended by MPs and peers from Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats and the Independent benches. Tackling corruption and dirty money is not a party political issue, and our members are united across party lines in taking it on.

A real joy to be at the German Embassy to mark 75 years of UK-German relations. As a former Erasmus student, I know what close ties with Europe can do for young people. But they have had those opportunities taken away by a decision made a decade ago, before many were old enough to have a say.

Young people can see the harm Brexit has caused and the doors it has closed. Many local businesses tell me they feel it too. No one wants a return to the bitter debates about Europe that divided our communities. But we do need serious discussions with the EU to secure a better deal for Britain.

So what does a reset actually mean? Lower bills, stronger defence cooperation, and easier mobility for young people and workers. These are changes my constituents would see and feel every day, and that’s where our focus should be.

In 3 minutes, I explain why the Tory plan to abolish inheritance tax is despicable. A vanishingly small number of estates in Bolton pay inheritance tax. The vast majority of us will never have anything to do with this tax. The threshold is rightly set so the very wealthiest pay their fair share. 👇

The tax raises £10.8 billion a year. This is money the Tories want to hand back to the wealthiest people in the country. And who would pay? The single mum in Horwich. The pensioner in Blackrod. The small business owner in Westhoughton. The young person in Bolton trying to buy their first home.

As usual, this is socialism for the rich, and cuts for everyone else. They want to make us a country where what you inherit matters more than how hard you work. The Tories have shown exactly who they stand for, and it's not you.

And let me be clear - I want people to do well. If you work hard, you should be able to build a very comfortable life, spend your money on what you want, and pass your house and savings on to your kids. But this isn’t about most people - it's about the mega rich.

My view is that we need to get development right. Growth must be planned responsibly. That means infrastructure first, better public transport, roads that can cope with increased demand, and sufficient school places and GP capacity.

We've got to put an end to land ownership secrecy which is perpetuated by the Land Registry. @guyshrubsole.bsky.social right to continue his work shining a light on the lack of urgency being brought to bear. This matters - to ensure that individuals who do own vast swathes of land are accountable.

Very sad to find out that Councillor Pat Karney, a real stalwart of Manchester Labour Party, sadly passed away yesterday. His sheer dedication - including more than 40 years in the town hall - was unrivalled. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with all his many friends and his family.

Parliament knowing that strong rules, transparency and accountability matter. It is important that we listen to the views of businesses, charities and campaigners when making decisions. But it’s important that those decisions are always made in the public interest, not shaped by money, privileged

As I've said on a number of occasions, I'm a firm believer in rewarding whistleblowers who provide actionable information about those committing economic crime. I hope the government will act, building on the review conducted by Jonathan Fisher earlier this year which included this recommendation.

🇬🇧 🇩🇪 Productive meeting with German social democrat MP Adis Ahmetovic & @chelfulhamben discussing all things UK-Germany. Adis is a MP for Hannover, where I studied as an Erasmus exchange student for a year & so we spoke at length about the enduring connections which bind our two countries together.

Measures such as these embolden authoritarian regimes the world over. Pleased to see the following joint statement from every other G7 nation, plus Denmark & the Netherlands which reaffirms their commitment to the ICC and criticises the American sanctions. www.gov.uk/government/n...

Particularly pleased to see the renewed focus on hybrid threats and regional growth. Berlin remains one of our strongest allies. Long may that continue.

I want to see a new ‘Economic Crime Fighting Fund’ for law enforcement agencies, which would reinvest seized criminal cash straight back into the agencies that recovered them. We should be making criminals pay for a stronger, more efficient and more strategic policing response.

Thank you to the dedicated civil servants who have produced a very strong blueprint, and to every frontline officer involved in enforcement activity. If you have information about illegality on the high street, please pass it on to the police.

I’ll be working with the Government, including Security Minister Dan Jarvis, to make sure nobody, whether that’s people traffickers, drug dealers or Russian oligarchs, can clean and stash their dirty cash here in the UK.

As Chair of the APPG on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax, I welcome the real ambition here: £550 million of investment over three years, 500 new officers across law enforcement and justice, a new national Financial Intelligence Service, and stronger closure powers for dodgy shops.
