Ouch! Thought I might be being a bit previous when I panic bought two additional Dell 740xd servers before prices went higher. RAM is now double what I paid three months ago and ten times what I budgeted 18 months ago. Biggest short term issue is hard drives.

The greatest challenge of our time isn’t to figure out how to get to Mars or become interstellar, but to figure out how to live sustainably on Earth.

If you follow through to the article, you can comment using your Bluesky (or other ATmosphere) account. That is the bigger point. We can extend the ATmosphere to support Facebook style interactions.

Bluesky is best when it is providing rapid notification of events. Following articles spread across multiple toots is hard and they clutter up the feeds. Separating short form blogging from long was the serendipity that made Twitter so valuable before it became The Bad Place.

Attempting to install Jellyfin under Proxmox, I has issues. First, why make me install curl? Debian packages exist to do installations? Second, there is no point checking a distribution package against a checksum from the same source Third, instructions could say its a web UI on port 8096

I have been looking at UV printers. Looks like this is a very exciting technology that is not quite there yet despite the very polished products. XTool has three models in their lineup but forces you to choose between printing on DTF film and printing on leather (unless you buy two machines). /1

Currently, any UV printer bricks itself after a prolonged period of not being used. This is a pretty much inevitable situation when your inks are made from vampire juices that turn to stone when they are struck by sunlight. Not an acceptable state for a $2,500 machine /5

But what if you could simply pull out the lines and replace them for $60 a pop? What if you could take the head out, soak it in an IPA cleaning bath and store it in a dark container just in case some stray goop remains? /5

Epson also sells an 8 channel head which some of the newer printers use. It is pretty clear that an 8 channel single head UV printer will arrive at some point with an 8-channel direct to fabric/film option. /3

Seems to me that prices in this segment need to drop to half current levels and printers need to be designed so that heads and ink delivery lines are replaceable consumable items. 4/

Printing on flexible materials requires a dual head UV printer with 12 channels but only has nine different inks. So besides the ability print on flexible materials, all the $800 extra buys you is faster printing of whites and fluorescent inks. /2

Anyone expecting the Trump/Putin diesel 'deal' to result in a single gallon of Russian diesel arriving in the US should consider the fact that Ukrainian drone operators report their enemy is unable to recharge drones on account of lacking diesel for their generators.

Spread this far and wide: Susan Collins is corrupt, a pay for play Senator selling government contracts for campaign donations. Collins has to back Trump because the investigation he stopped to protect her is a prosecution he can restart to punish her any time he chooses.

ProPublica@propublica.org

Two months after the CEO of defense contractor Navatek used a shell company to send $150,000 to the Susan Collins super PAC, the senator committed to getting Navatek $32 million in naval contracts, according to company emails.

In years to come it will emerge that the shipment of F35 parts through Hong Kong was not a mistake, it was done on purpose by one of the many foreign agents infiltrated into the US DoD with the connivance of traitor Hegseth.

I suspect it might be quite a while before Trump folds and lets the press corps back. His courtiers will likely find it so much easier to control senile orange when he doesn't have an audience so they will encourage him to stand firm.

As a MS Now listener, I am actually quite happy they have been kicked out of the WH because it means less clips of Trump flapping his pie hole which are the point where I change channel. I have absolutely no interest in hearing anything the smelly senile rapist says.

We should all be disgusted of the White House Press Corp. No one walked out No one told Trumpy to go fuck himself. No one said mean things to Trumpy after he chopped down another pillar of American Democracy. No one asked for proof any of them published 'fake news'. No one did anything. Sad.

Just told a MAGA to their face that I consider Trump to be a bully, a rapist, senile and utterly incompetent. Every time he opens his mouth it is to say something utterly absurd. Sure did feel good.

You know a case is going badly when the other side asks for an emergency hearing and the judge says, 'nah, don't need to hear any more, here is an injunction'.

Open up YouTube to find yet another video talking about the demise of Jaguar as a lesson of what 'wokeness' does to a brand. The business logic behind the Jaguar Land Rover strategy is pretty obvious: the only cars people are buying are SUVs and pickup trucks.

From a business perspective, Jaguar's approach makes perfect sense. The people screeching they will never buy a 'woke car' were never the target audience. Contrary to their belief, the number of very rich people who consider Trump to be a senile rapist outnumber the red pedo hat brigade.

I am going to be very happy driving around in a car that I know will make members of the MAGA rape cult very angry because it stands for everything they hate - diversity, inclusion, self expression.

The Land Rover side of the business is doing just fine selling SUVs varying in size from small to large. The market for sedans has collapsed which is why Jaguar cancelled their $100K electric XJ and decided to move upmarket.

Jaguar is betting that there is a market for luxury electric cars with a range of over 400 miles. With an all-electric vehicle, performance is no longer much of a differentiator, it is unlikely many people will notice the difference between the 600 and 950HP versions of the power train.

Think I have an answer to a question posed some time ago by @molly.wiki How to provide content providers with a platform that allows them to charge for paid content without becoming tied to that provider. Patreon/Substack but without switching costs and without the liability of holding cc numbers

Question for ATprotocol folk. I am putting up a site that lets people create Facebook like personal feeds that use ATprotocol account infrastructure. What is concerning me is what happens if I stop supporting the site or more generally, if a third party starts a service and abandons it.

Allowing Alice to keep one identity across the platforms obviously makes sense. But what happens if my service stops for whatever reason? How does Alice revert to @alice.b-sky.social if my DNS service has gone by-bye? Is there enough information in the system for her to work it out?

A bigger win would be to persuade the people running the millions of existing blogs and special interest forums that somehow managed to avoid being stomped into the dirt by Facebook to all join up and use the same common account infrastructure that gives individual users control over their destiny

MPlace2 builds on the account management infrastructure of Bluesky but does not make use of any part of the ATprotocol. This is entirely intentional because my goal here isn't to persuade people to use my particular set of code.

Adding Facebook features to BlueSky is interesting but would likely happen of its own accord anyway. My back-end infrastructure is built to support roughly a million users, but a much bigger win would be to persuade other people to download my code and start setting up servers of their own.
