Meta is betting on people the way the makers of Soylent Green were.

Meta says it’s betting on people in an AI ad as David Bowie’s song about humanity learning the apocalypse is just five years away plays in the background. It’s like they’re just effing with us.

DraftKings? Want to bet I don’t watch? Like any of us need yet another reason to avoid getting news from CBS.

Election night... sponsored by DraftKings? CBS' owned stations will carry DraftKings branding through Election Night, we have learned, a sponsorship that has stirred concern inside the company. Details in @status.news: www.status.news/p/cbs-draftk...

Just watched a hospital ad in which three people sit at a snowy football game with open jackets. Not sure how much I trust the medical expertise. Meanwhile, I figure these dolts will show up soon in Allstate ads.

This is some Russian/ North Korea style bullsh*t happening right here in the US two weeks from a crucial election & on the day that opposition forces are rallying nationwide. No more media monopolies.

“Hi, this is Peyton Manning. I can’t take your call right now. At the tone, please leave your name, number and, if you’re asking me to do ads for your business, the answer is yes.” Beeeeep.

It will remain the blonde leading the blonde in the White House press room for the forseeable future. While AI might be able lie to reporters as well as any human press secretary, it's also possible the agent could run amok and start spewing the truth. Too risky.

Here's the story I wrote the last time the Milwaukee Brewers earned a trip to the World Series, back in 1982. My assignment for The Capital Times of Madison, Wis., was the California Angels' clubhouse. I was 19.

Points to the NYT for giving @markjacob.bsky.social the chance on its site to share some of his criticisms of the newspaper's White House coverage in conversation with Patrick Healy. Whether the Times truly hears any of what Mark has to say remains to be seen. Healy's defense arguments suggest no.

The last time the Brewers won a pennant I was 19 and helped cover it for The Capital Times of Madison, Wis. My assignment was the Angels’ clubhouse. I felt bad for manager Gene Mauch. Reggie Jackson had a great quote about how he’d planned to drink Champagne, but instead it was just beer.

we should be framing the Jake Bauers insurance story as pro-player and anti-lockout these are not all millionaires a lot of them are guys who need healthcare for their families and are tied to a job just like you

The reason to let John Schriffen go as White Sox TV play-by-play announcer is he remained lousy at the job despite whatever improvements he may have made over three long years. Everything else is tangential. It’s not that complicated.

Even though he was contractually allowed to take a certain number of games off, did he have to take that game off?

I caught one of Rick Nielsen’s sweaters at Cheap Trick’s NYE 1981 show at Rockford’s Metrocentre. Others grabbed it too. I wound up with a swatch that included the band’s logos from the front, one of the sleeves and part of the other. Years later, I gave it to one of my friends who went with me.

This is an actual reason why Bari Weiss’ CBS foreign editor told staff that they could not include reporting on Netanyahu receiving advance warning of a Hamas attack before Oct 7. The astonishing tirade in @status.news www.status.news/p/bari-weiss...

“In March, the president feted Guilfoyle at a White House event for Greek Independence Day calling her ‘my friend for a long time’ and ‘an inspiration.’ On Tuesday he told reporters: ‘No, she wasn’t a member of my family. She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago.’”

wsj.comInside Kimberly Guilfoyle’s Final Days as Ambassador to GreeceTo save her job, she claimed the incriminating texts were AI generated; Trump grew annoyed with the damaging revelations.

If the World Series is Milwaukee vs. Cleveland (or Tampa Bay, for that matter), it’s really going to muck up the owners’ propaganda campaign that a salary cap is needed for competitive balance. In case you’re looking for a rooting interest.

As a longtime Martin Mull devotee, I too am glad the Netflix documentary on him exists despite its flaws. I committed this 1975 Soundstage special with Flo & Eddie to memory off a pre-VCR audio recording I made when I was a kid. He was so good. Enjoy.

@claudialamb.bsky.social Have you seen this documentary? I’m glad it exists, but was alarmed to discover that it erases MH2 from the story, which is pretty hard to do. www.rogerebert.com/reviews/who-...

Sounds like criminal behavior, no?

No doubt Chicago’s brain trust knew this but the White Sox are discovering in real time that you do need starting pitching to win multiple rounds of the baseball playoffs.
