Rookie FB/CB and U.S. U23 Defender Carolyn Calzada vs NC Courage #BAONPDX #NWSL Led team in the following: - Defensive Contributions (18) - Interceptions (4) - Blocks (3) - Clearances (10) Portland Thorns HC Robert Vilahamn: "If you look at Reyna Reyes & Carolyn Calzada, the fullbacks, so good."

"Playing Carolyn Calzada at right-back was basically to play against Ashley Sanchez, because she had done that against Trinity Rodman, and she's so good at it. She did it again today, and that's why I wanted to play her."

"Isabella Obaze needed to come out with cramp, and Carolyn Calzada took one step closer into center-back and blocked every shot and won every duel in the box. That's really high level." 📸 @kelseybaker.bsky.social

youtu.bePress Conference | Thorns Rally Back to Secure a Point at Bay FCYouTube video by Portland Thorns FC

Reyna Reyes: "We gave them the chances they had because we needed to be sharper, cleaner on the ball." "We had good spells, it wasn't all bad. We could have been more patient too - not sending it long every time and keeping the ball." #BAONPDX #NWSL youtu.be/9Jhj6TjXJGk?...

RR is absolutely correct in her assessment and this has been the ongoing struggle for the Portland Thorns. Many of the players on the team would like to keep possession more often, but the system isn't built for that anymore - it's counterattacking with very, very little build-up...

Also want to mention how highly Reyna Reyes is seen as a leader on the backline - when she speaks, folks listen. Her wanting the team to have more control of the matches, especially in possession has been a key message since her arrival in the Rose City.

FT #BayFC 2-2 #BAONPDX Bay FC outplayed Portland Thorns for the majority of the match, but it was Caiya Hanks who equalized out of nothing. Nina Nijstad connected with Morgan Weaver early on as well. PTFC somehow come away with a point and struggles remain in both attack and defense...

Next week at home vs North Carolina Courage will decide the entire season for Portland Thorns. A big result and you can go into playoffs with momentum. A loss and you will likely miss out on the postseason entirely. Oh yeah, Sophia Wilson is still out. High-pressure times ahead to say the least.

With Seattle Reign’s win tonight, PTFC are now only two points above the playoff line… Who do they play next? You’ve guessed it. Ninth ranked NCC.

The late-season issues for Portland Thorns is hard to comprehend with the number of big-name attackers returning, but it's very clear where they did not put resources: central defense. They are struggling to complete passes & hold any semblance of possession... This team looks more lost than ever.

As expected with Sophia Wilson out, Reilyn Turner steps in and plays the nine vs Bay FC #BAONPDX #NWSL PORTLAND THORNS have a true aerial threat in the middle, can they take advantage? Pietra Tordin remains at the 10, as Robert Vilahamn wanted his best XI. Must-Win Game for PTFC…

86' Caiya Hanks EQUALIZES 2-2 Somehow the ball lands right back to her and she blasts it home. Wow. Portland Thorns sitting on a point, but need all three now... Do they deserve all three? No, but that won't matter.

I still can't believe she scored between two defenders and snuck it in near post against Silkowitz.

77' Jayden "JP" Perry passes it right to Bay FC... What in the possession...

81' Julie Dufour has subbed on. Over 12+ months of blood, sweat, and tears for this wonderful moment. A player who has been commended for her professionalism and work ethic all rehab/recovery. She's back where she belongs, on the pitch.

73' Caiya Hanks will another terrific dribble that nearly sets up Pietra Tordin for the equalizer. Portland Thorns chasing another game...

74' Reyna Reyes booked with a yellow card.

67' Bay FC have moved the ball with ease for the past 40+ minutes... Portland Thorns showing very little resistance now. No rhythm and a lot of "hoping" for mistakes. Kennedy Fuller beats Carolyn Calzada with a nutmeg and places it sidenet on Arnold. 1-2 Bay FC.

Which team is chasing the playoffs by the way? Couldn't tell, thought it was Bay FC. 72' Isa Obaze on for Carolyn Calzada, Bogere for Nina Nijstad. And then one of the worst taken corners you'll ever see... What is this?

Portland Thorns FC@thornsfc.com

how we line 🆙 today 📺 @espn.com

Tordin looks to have moved up to the frontline and Harvey in as the 10.

64' Reilyn Turner's final touch has let her down today. Another sequence there.

55' M.A. Vignola is being subbed off for Marie Müller. Karlie Lema has been outstanding and outplayed the FB all day long.

Shae Harvey also on for Morgan Weaver. How did Hanks not get a call there?

Portland Thorns FC@thornsfc.com

how we line 🆙 today 📺 @espn.com

The Portland Thorns have no answer for Lema. Absolutely none.

45'+3 - Caiya Hanks nearly finds Reilyn Turner, but it's block out by Bay FC. HT 1-1 Brilliant goal by Morgan Weaver and heck of a first half from Karlie Lema's work rate to find the equalizer to Caroline Conti. Portland Thorns had the better of it early, but all Bay FC after that.

Portland Thorns FC@thornsfc.com

how we line 🆙 today 📺 @espn.com

M.A. Vignola has chosen one of the worst times to have this type of performance.

Lianne Sanderson: "I can't believe Portland Thorns find themselves in this position." Why is that so hard to say for folks? The expectations for PTFC have always been sky-high every single season, when did they lower or get graded on a curve? Just making the playoffs isn't good enough.

Portland Thorns FC@thornsfc.com

how we line 🆙 today 📺 @espn.com

32' After video review, they somehow reverse the call of PTFC's Vignola... What on Earth? Portland Thorns get away with one.

33' Ball Don't Lie. 1-1 Bay FC ties it. M.A. Vignola passes it back straight to Karlie Lema who finds Conti for the equalizer. Portland Thorns somehow get away with the PK and then immediately gave the goal back. That's just so bad...

Portland Thorns FC@thornsfc.com

how we line 🆙 today 📺 @espn.com

Nina Nijstad has been excellent since joining PTFC. Has already scored her first NWSL goal and now picks up first assist. Internationally, senior team call-ups coming soon 🇳🇱

29' M.A. Vignola with a goal line clearance and then concedes a PK... Portland Thorns continue to let up up a goal this season. That's bad defending and a penalty all day.
