Zeus, the god of gods, who rules according to law, and is able to see into such things, perceiving that an honourable race was in a woeful plight, and wanting to inflict punishment on them, that they might be chastened and improve, collected all the gods into their most holy habitation,

Better US-understanders correct me if I am wrong, but these goals seem, to me, to work at cross purposes? Unless the Democratic Party achieves a startling and sudden unity of action and purpose, maintaining the concentration of executive power seems necessary for a programme of hard rollback?

Jessica Ellis@baddestmamajama.bsky.social

Nobody is going to want to hear this, but a real risk we face, no matter who is president next, is that they will see no need to restore the rights lost or the executive power stolen in the last 10 years.

Or, to frame it another way, it seems more achieveable to get a (for sake of example) Mamdani candidate and president, and run a unitary executive, than it would be to (again, e.g.) Mamdanify the Senate and House Democratic corpus. And without doing the latter, returning executive power seems like

Few know this but almost all the economic news coming out of China for the past half decade -- Domestic Growth Slowdown! EVs! Solar! Exports! China Shock 2.0 etc etc -- is about this dramatic policy driven gear-shift of the domestic economy out of the property sector.

This is a very funny article. "Class conflict, whose origins lie in the 2016 EU Referendum, is set to define national politics for the next decade." The history of all hirtherto existing society, which originated in 2016, ...

Arguably there is an epicycle, where you try to move away from this position, and then other leftists yell at you for accelerationism.

The experience of being a leftist in 2026 is continually being forced into a position of becoming among the staunchest defenders of the status quo, which you do not believe in at all, while its supposed proponents try to smash it with hammers and yell at you for standing in the way

The "socialist calculation debate" is dumb and completely irrelevant to the actual problems of socialism, or capitalism for that matter. This is one of those things that seems so obvious to me that it's not even worth making an argument for, yet some smart people somehow manage to believe otherwise.

this is actually helpful to hear. faced with an impossibly tall order, the low hanging fruit here is actually to start putting heads on pikes. round up the worst corruption cases. see who finds religion. go from there

The entire crux of the repeated prisoner's dilemma is that only the credible threat of tit for tat can keep things civil. They did the tit They get the tat It's that simple. If you don't do it that way, it means they're in charge and you're just a useless mark.

At last, thank god, I can stop my fantastic observations from going viral.

bsky isnt ready for this but, if you need a reason to not make terrible posts that isn't "well it kinda makes Pierre Dipshit mad" (it does) imagine this: future state that has you in its population, knows you posted that online with joy, and sends you for reeducation through labour as a result

your tax dollars are paying for federal government lawyers to file hysterical lies with federal government courts about whether a federal government employee can write his own name on a federal government building

Arrival remains very good, but I would like to note that: 1) Jeremy Renner says "so that just happened". 2) The physicist's role is not simply to say "they can effect local modifications to gravity, we can make no demand of any relevance to them" at every opportunity.

"Exists only if they are monogamous" is also a very funny clause, since it would mean that a lot of people purport and mistakenly believe that they are married!

I want to see the explicit argument against "larger groups". Surely under the internal logic of the piece there is very little to preclude two men and two women achieving organic bodily union adjacently, or perhaps in some temporal rotation. The obvious "disjoint union" joke writes itself in fact.

At the top of any minimalist programme for concrete changes necessary in Britain, we should probably have: 1. Close the private schools 2. Eradicate the columnists.
