Pinball Map app updank approved (v5.4.27) - Adds events to the location details screen. - User location works on de-Googled Android phones. - Plus more.

Sorry, pinball map was down/really broken for a couple hours there. It's ok now. It was caused by a failed server update, and then some compounding issues.

Nice little quality of life update today (web and app): we made the location/geographic/machine search autocomplete a lot more forgiving. Such as, if you type some of the words of a business name in the wrong order, you'll still get results. Will continue evaluating and tweaking it.

If any Pinball Map users have a de-googled Android phone (no Google Play Services installed) and want to help us beta test an app update, please get in touch.

We have been working on some pinball event listing improvements. We now import 6 months of IFPA events, attempt to match them to Pinball Map locations, then display the events in that location listing. And added an Events button on the map that will show upcoming events within the current map view

IFPA is the only source of events that has a nice JSON output for us to ingest. If you want non-IFPA events listed, you have to make them available to import.

Pinball Map has eclipsed 100,000 edits in 2026. You people are on track to make more edits than you did in 2025 (in like 2 weeks, actually). Thank you for helping keep the map up to date. Stats can be found here pinballmap.com/stats

New Pinball Map app update out, v5.4.26 Main diff in this one is that the app will remember if you were previously viewing a location or machine before the app closed, and it will reopen to that screen (within a 3 hour window). It will help users who are closing/reopening to add scores and such.

A few months ago we hid scores from other users in most places, and in today's app update (v5.4.25) we add them back on the machine details screen. It looks like this. You can see your own (top 10), and all scores (also top 10).

Now we have six months of Pokemon pinball data, so we've updated this chart. Here's how many copies of different machines were added to locations on Pinball Map during the first 6 months of their release. Pokemon doing very well. #pinball

Pinball Map app quick tip for finding which locations have the newest machine. video has audio. And if you don't already know that, for ex, Fallout is the newest, you can sort the machine select screen by Year.

New app update. The "Route" button at a location now gives you a selection of which installed map app you want to use for directions.

Probably shouldn't use screenshots from a development environment. The AYCE Gogi location actually has been updated in the past 3 years.

New Pinball Map app update (v.5.4.19). This one is largely focused on better design handling for users with LARGE SCALED system text. Like, if you set your phone's text size to be larger than default, there were previously many broken/ugly design things. And now those are mostly resolved.

We released another update. Just a minor fix to some font scaling issue on the Sign Up screen (thank u 1 star app reviewer for letting us know).

New app update. Only focused on some design changes. Radical (in the surfer slang sense) redesign of the location details page. Less wall of text.

"Pinball Map has a better view of this than I do. It spent years handing out free, open API access to anyone who asked" No one had to ask! Anyway, good insights into things here. Hope you love high score and rules apps.

"There was bad software and bad art before AI. It's just way easier to make now." That's Ed Giardina of Pinventory, one of three developers Benjamin Plotkin and I talked to about the 15 new pinball apps and websites we've tracked so far this year. www.kineticist.com/news/pinball...

We closed the gate today. Which means people who didn't spot it in the 8 different places we posted (we tried our best) are now sending very long LLM-penned explanations of their token requests. Feels oddly humiliating to read and especially to respond to.

Weekly map activity: 82 locations submitted 84 locations added 34 locations deleted 478 machine comments 974 machines added 594 machines removed 11 contact messages 89 pictures added 435 scores added 10 machine comments deleted 224 location metadata updated 3584 user submissions total

Also: 13 pictures removed 12 scores deleted But we ran out of space above. Last week there were over 900 scores added. 400-500 is more normal.

New app update. This one: - Support for All Ages and Free Play location-level fields. - When filtering locations, include a (i) button that summarizes the applied filters. - Greatly expanded universal/deep link support, so that urls with params will be respected. - MORE Vid demo

We just added All Ages and Free Play fields to locations. We initially populated the fields as best we could. But it's an imperfect process and now requires many hundreds (or thousands) or manual review and edits. Please help! Details here: blog.pinballmap.com/2026/07/27/n...

blog.pinballmap.comNew Fields: All Ages and Free PlayFor years now, we have been getting regular requests for two additional location fields: parents/caregivers want see whether a place is “all ages”; and peopl...

While the new fields are available on the website map, the app as always lags behind. The next app update is in review. We rarely ever add new fields, in part due to the data issues. To help, filter by All Ages and edit any locations that are improperly showing up.

Another reminder. We'll enable this on Monday, Aug 3 (instead of the end of this week, because we realized that might be mean).

Reminder. Also, in case this isn't clear, this is only relevant to third-party developers using the Pinball Map API for their tools.

Two of the features from yesterday's app update were suggested by users last week. Shoutout to @dri374.live for the idea for sorting by "rarest", and phishrace for sorting by newest. Below is an example showing sorting by newest to quickly discover where a new machine is.

Seems like sorting by newest is a good way for people who are new to pinball (and don't read pinball news) to discover what the latest is. These new sort options are available both in the machine add/filter list and in the location's lineup.
