#cassette Two more superb cassettes from Black Pylon arrived a couple of days ago; Three from Corvid One, and Resistance from TMLFS. There is a surprising amount of good stuff happening in the world of DIY cassettes. They sound really good too. This format has some life left!

#My9Albums Certainly 9 albums and I certainly own them all on vinyl, but are they *the* 9 albums? Who knows? Tried to do it as rock, stuff from a bit later, then discovering jazz etc. Far too many missed, in fact many whole genres, but that isn’t a terrible 9 albums to start from.

#vinyl 2026 LP17 & 18 #electronica #jazz Eartheater Heavenly Body: If I’m The Bottle You’re The Message, and Ezra Collective Here Because of Hope. The former a quite remarkable album about childbirth, the latter a wonderfully funky Afrobeat, reggae and jazz fusion. Both highly recommended.

#cassette #electronica Some rather wonderful electronica/ambient/found-sound stuff from Dogs Versus Shadows on Strategic Tape Reserve. Comes with some 16mm film clippings! Cassette works well for this genre, it adds something of its own that enhances somehow. Available on Bandcamp (see alt txt).

#vinyl 2026 LP15 & 16 Durutti Column Renascent & Younger Brother Weapon Of Mass Distraction. Two great new albums from older artists and who can argue with a free Durutti Column tote bag from Piccadilly Records! First spin now, a beautiful album. The YB is excellent too, that one landed yesterday.

#vinyl #aphextwin #electronica For exactly 25 years now I’ve been trying to figure out where to keep this absurdly oversize box set! The odds of playing it all at the right speed is low given half is 33 and half is 45! Today it has been reissued, including a limited dumb box version like this!

In case the above is a bit too cryptic it is Aphex Twin Drukqs. A fascinating album that flits between complex polyrhythmic electronica one would expect, and almost John Cage prepared piano stuff. Really good and still fresh. Hasn’t aged at all. I played it all today. At the right speed too!

#vinyl #joydivision #closer I found out Joy Division’s Closer is 46 years old today! Still an astonishing ground-breaking record. Dig your copy out for a spin right now! It deserves it!

#vinyl 2026 LP13 & 14 Cardinals Masquerade and Kelela New Avatar. Polar extremes genre-wise, but two great records. Cardinals bought on the strength of a great KEXP session. Surprised to still find a nice signed one up for grabs (from a shop in Bangor, Wales!).

#vinyl 2026 #jazz Jeff Parker ETA IVTet - Happy Today. Another two lengthy live jams to add to the wonderful Way Out Of Easy double from a couple of years ago. Wonderful stuff and a wonderful recording. Odd crackle here and there from the blue vinyl, but not bad. Highly recommended.

#vinyl 2026 LP12 #electronica Boards Of Canada day came early this week. Rather good it is too. Comments on pressing etc in alt text where there is so much more room!

PS Forgot to add this is 2026 LP #11. Looks like I’m at roughly two a month average for new music at present. Loads of second hand or reissue stuff too, but I’m not documenting that. This is count is only for new releases.

#vinyl 2026 LP9 & 10 Kneecap - Fenian & Squarepusher Kammer Konzert. 2026 just keeps on delivering! Two excellent albums. Each pushing their own boundaries. Hard.

#vinyl 2026 LP8 Deary - Birding. So much great #shoegaze at present Fans of Heaven Or Las Vegas-era Cocteaus etc will love this. I feel old being there the first time around! Quality anyway, might still be able to find signed clear copies on Bandcamp if you move fast.

#cassette #cassaturday Corvid One - Two. A rather wonderful ambient/noise/shoegaze/electronica thing, see @thirdkindrecords.bsky.social I’m liking this a lot. PS If anyone wants to know how/why it took me well over a year to restore a Nak LX-3 I’ve linked a thread over on pfm in the alt text!

#vinyl 2026 LP7 Art School Girlfriend - Lean In. Hard one to pigeonhole, but includes appropriate quantities of #shoegaze, #electronica etc along with respectable pop sensibilities. Signed copy (insert) from Resident. A decent sounding pressing.

#vinyl 2026 LP6 Pre-order of Mandy Indiana’s Urgh arrived. Industrial synth-pop stuff, maybe think DAF, SPK, Front242, TG etc. Comes with appropriate eye-protection for the yellow/orange splatter vinyl. Not the best pressing (infill?), but it is so obnoxious and in your face its barely noticeable!

#vinyl #shoegaze 2026 LP5 Whitelands second album Sunlight Echoes just landed. There’s either a huge shoegaze revival at present, or it never went away. Either way this is another great album in that genre. I managed to score a nice signed green one from Pie & Vinyl.

#Vinyl 2026 LP4 #electronica #trains Craven Faults - Sidings. Excellent semi-ambient electronica from Yorkshire on the Leaf Label. This is the orange vinyl from Bandcamp with very nice photo book and card.

#Vinyl #Reggae #dub #SlyDunbar #RIP A sad goodbye to one of the greatest drummers and half of one if the greatest rhythm sections ever. Rest in peace Sly Dunbar.

#vinyl 2026 LP3 PVA - No More Like This. Interesting synth-pop/industrial-ish kind of stuff. A step forward from the debut Blush IMO. Liking it so far. PS This is the ltd pre-order from their site, which in hindsight was a mistake as Resident have signed copies!

#vinyl 2026 LP2 Delayed from last year as I was too late out the gate for the Dinked Edition, but a nice new signed yellow pressing of Passenger by Nightbus landed today from Resident. Quality #shoegaze meets electronic indie stuff.

First one of 2025 lands; Dry Cleaning’s Secret Love on “apricot” vinyl with signed photo. Actually quiet and flat! Rather good so far. No massive departure from the previous two albums, they are what they are, and it’s this. I’ll maybe try documenting everything new I buy this year.

#Vinyl This week’s fresh oddness from Brighton: The New Eves - The New Eve Is Rising. A hard one to categorise, kind of shambolic freak-folk meets The Slits via Amon Düül (I more than II). Certainly its own thing. As ever I can’t resist a signed copy on pre-order.

#Vinyl Another one of those sad days. RIP Ozzy. Pleased I got to see the original line-up (1978, Liverpool Empire, I was still a school kid). An astonishing genre-defining band.

#Vinyl New Wet Leg album Moisturiser landed, albeit a day late despite the comedically huge £6.15 postage charge. It is growing on me after a couple of plays. The “3d lenticular” cover of this edition is quite amusing; Rhian’s somewhat creepy expression changes depending on the viewing angle.

#Lego #Art Keith Haring set! They’ll be mounted on the wall in the bathroom when done. Lego can knock it out of the park on occasion, these are great!

#Vinyl New Utopia Strong album Collapse landed. I set an alarm for this one as this series always sell-out real fast (I’ve got the set). No idea how long they stuck around, but they were gone within the hour. Wonderfully trippy Krautrock/drone electronica and signed by a famous snooker player!

#Vinyl New Yeule album ‘Evangelic Girl Is A Gun’ landed a day early - I get it ahead of Tidal etc! Great loud punchy cut and exactly as odd as I was hoping. No idea how one categorises this stuff, but if you like their previous albums you’ll like it.

#Vinyl New Stereolab album landed and very good it is too. A surprising return to form after such a huge (15 year!) break. I like this one and it gets better as the album progresses too. Nice cut too, the vinyl sounds really good (clear vinyl here).

#Vinyl #PinkFloyd I guess there will be about 400 pictures of this one here today, so here’s another. Did anyone not buy it?! Rude not to really. Very nicely done and a distinct upgrade on the crackly old bootleg I had back as a teenager. IIRC I only had half of it too!

#Vinyl I had the privilege of seeing Pere Ubu way back in 1981 with Gang Of Four and Delta 5. A truly great and memorable gig. What a band and legacy. David Thomas RIP.

#Vinyl My Dinked order from Norman Records arrived today; Knats self-titled, funky new jazz stuff, and Mandrake Handshake, which I was in two minds about ordering, but it’s great! Kind of hippie-prog meets Stereolab, bonkers 45 rpm glitter vinyl! Actual glitter, and it doesn’t sound like sandpaper.

#vinyl New BDRM album Microtonic just landed and is sounding very decent. Rather more electronica/ambient than the last one, but still in that general shoegaze/post-rock area. It is very blue.
