Last week I wrote a very detailed Slack message that took me 30 mins to write where I explained why certain architectural approaches are preferred in our systems. I got called out for generating it with AI and asked if I can summarize it in 20 words... What have we become πŸ™„

Banks: We will use AI to talk with customers so our support has lower volume of incoming request to handle! Ha! Me: Lets use AI to talk to banks AI in a way that leads to get a real person on the phone. Checkmate! πŸ˜…

Yesterday worked on changes in code base. I had a very particular way I wanted to solve a problem. I described all the changes I want to make to Cursor. For the first time every AI told me "Nah bro, your suggestion is bullshit. Let me do it in a completely different way"🀯

Im currently reading The Devils by Joe Abercrombie... What a book πŸ˜‚ β€œOn the contrary, I am a great admirer of the tenets of your religion. I merely find it a shame that the Saved are, as a rule, so little like their Saviour.”

Tip for vibe coders: If you are using Vercel (or other similar SaaS) remember to black list .md files. At least Vercel by default will make your claude.md publicly available.

I'm wondering if the natural grumpiness of Easter Europeans is one of the reasons why they are such good engineers (they always assume things will go wrong) πŸ€”

I cannot build frontend but I can build half decent backend. Since I have hired this guy, called Claude, building things is so much fun. I can focus on what I know and let him handle the UI. I need to write him a proper recommendation on LinkedIn. He has a bright career ahead❀️

Merry Christmas folks! I hope you will give your friends and family undivided attention instead of just checking from time to time if you agent finished implementation of next feature πŸ˜…

We can now write code so fast that reviewing it becomes a bottleneck. Im looking forward to first company that will decide that AI based PR review is enough.

So much of my liking a book depends on my schedule. I can read the most amazing book but if I got an important project I need to deliver there is no way I will like a book if I can read 1-2 chapters per week only.

Just noticed @datadoghq is hiring Staff Engs in Germany. This is new, right? I havent seen engineering job offers from DD in Germany before πŸ€”

I do not use Copilot or other Gen AI for writing code in my side projects if the purpose of them is learning. I will chat with ChatGPT but I need to write the code. Otherwise I do not feel like learning.

I recently started to read some Go code which uses break instruction with labels to jump to a specific place in code. Thank god this is used mostly for getting outside of a loop but wow how unnatural for my brain this is.

Pokemon Pocket is a great simulation of what it means to collect real Pokemon cards. As of today there are 294 unique cards to collect plus around 30 promos and maybe 50 illustration rares. I have over 2100 cards and I'm still missing so many.

That moment when you implemented a perfect solution to a leetcode problem but you used maps instead of arrays and the checker rejects your solution as "too slow" 🫠

Today I attended a few meetings, wrote interview feedback and provided review cycle feedback for two of my colleagues. That's it. I really hope no one is measuring my performance by the number of lines of code πŸ˜…

Since the performance review season is here I would like to wish you all good luck! Fingers crossed for promotions and salary bumps! 🀞🏻
