Read in a language that is not Swedish or English. Draw while someone else reads aloud. Go to the library, pick up a book and read while you wait for someone. Read something you wrote yourself a long time ago. Read a text that is upside down. Read what someone else wrote by hand.

All the time. People seem to think I’m insulting myself when I say this, but I know SO MANY talented people who didn’t hit like I did. Yes, I AM talented! Yes, I DO work hard! But you can wallpaper a battleship with talented hard-working artists, and we don’t all get that break.

I tell people all the time that I got lucky with my career and it annoys a lot of them. "No, but you're good," they will say, and I will say, yes, I am good, and also here are all these people who write as well as I do but did not get the same break, so being good isn't the issue, being lucky is.

I am 90% sure my career wouldn't have happened if a couple people hadn't retweeted one of my stories the exact minute they did. You work your hardest, but it's not in your hands. It breaks a lot of people.

Nu är det inte hennes fel att hyresvärden far med osanning om bibliotekets superkrafter, men det är faktiskt inte mitt eller bibliotekets fel att allt från banker till hyresvärdar skickar folk (gärna digitalt vilsna/okunniga) till biblioteket för att de inte orkar ta hand om sina kunder.
