This is brilliant. I've somewhat avoided linking CSM to Fujimoto's anxiety as a writer. But early CSM never felt secure in Jump's ToC, and that's reflected in Denji haphazardly trying to define his big chance while others shape or simply wish for part of him. The thrill and perverted catharsis.
Chainsaw Man, final analysis: Part 0: Shonen Jump Aesthetic opinions aside, Chainsaw Man remains a defining work of popular fiction in the 20’s. It’s publication was a drastic departure from Jump’s editorial mainstream of the 00’s and 10’s. First, we examine the nature of this divergence.

Denji ends up in a similar situation as Pochita, he couldn't hug without causing pain yet still craved it. The pursuit of a painless world especially through destructive power won't work. Denji offering a dream world to Asa then destroying everything is maybe similar to his and Pochita's contract.
I remember when this came out, certain people were very happy. But looking back on it, does it feel kind of…shallow to anybody? His main reason for liking Asa isn’t because of a genuine connection but because he got to experience a painless kiss.
The popularity of roguelikes shows people do get a thrill out of the runs structure (even if some meta progression is needed), but you can't rely on self control Asking to engage with punishing design as meaningful intent will get some "only cheated yourself/control the button you press" replies
Painful review of the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle on Steam that really highlights how destructive the continue system was to people's perception of arcade games. The beat 'em ups mentioned play wildly different from one another if you're actually trying to survive on 1 credit.

People's politics rarely extends past mild inconvenience. Sure perfection isn't real, we're on a vibe coded ass website. Hitting 75% though is often a lot of not doing things, die on a few hills to prove you're still alive.
I'll be honest, there is nothing more demoralizing to me than devs saying "I know AI is built on theft, and anti-labour, and harms the environment, but I'm going to use it anyway bc I don't believe individual choices matter". This is how a movement fails. www.molleindustria.org/blog/future-...
Easy to point at the level of detail and say simple good detail MCU brained. But Shinohara's art was packed full of little details, however it all informs and says something. So rather than blame artists, I'd point at creators constrained by a system that desires produce devoid of identity.
