I don't want to be here. It's another company that controls a platform that can ruin things at any time. Find me on Mastodon at pleia2@floss.social where I believe in the platform, consider joining me! That said, I'm feeling the network effect, so here I am again 👋

Joined the Expert Sarah Julia Kriesch at her "Open Source on the mainframe - All you should/want to know" session in the Champions lounge right before lunch! #IBMTechXchange

This morning I could be found at the IBM Z Workbench 2 where I had some great conversations about open source on IBM Z and LinuxONE! Still have questions? Come find me! I also have some little fluffy penguins to give away 🐧 #IBMTechXchange

We did a GPG keysigning at The Open Mainframe Project event today at #IBMTechXchange 2 keys signed by active OMP project members (yes, one was mine) Lots of information dispensed for next time! It's still early days for the ZTRUST Working Group, so I'm calling this a success 🔐😁

Minding my own business, making waffles at 6:45AM because little kids don't understand weekends. Kid 1, zooming through the kitchen: "I'm not eating that!" Kid 2, shouting from the bathroom: "MOM, THE TOILET IS OVERFLOWING!" Good morning 🥱

RIP the tiny microwave we bought 8 years ago when I was pregnant because "omg we're having a kid I think we need a microwave!" and then used a million times a day. I thought that meant it was garbage. It turns out that's a respectable lifespan of a modern microwave. Basically, they're all garbage.

Over the weekend I started learning Mahjong through a 2 hour session put on by some ladies at our synagogue. It's a lot! But I had fun. Some day I hope to play with the beautiful set we inherited from my husband's grandmother.

Even as an established woman in tech, the iconic image of Margaret Hamilton next to the pile of printed code was inspiring. It was fascinating to learn about her and the work of so many other women in STEM during the space race, and beyond. People like her made me feel like I belong. RIP.

Happy #HugYourMainframeDay 🤗 Last year I had the pleasure of assisting PJ Catalano and Camillo Sassano with an IBM LinuxONE (and IBM Z 😉) unboxing in the IBM TechXchange 2025 expo hall, and I got in the first hug!

Went to a pumpkin patch, saw the most precious two week old baby donkey 😍 And did a hayride, petted some goats, bought some pumpkins, and the boys enjoyed lots of activities

Retired BART car 1203 is being turned into a beer and pizza spot in downtown Hayward and we got our first glimpse of the in-progress construction the other day 😁 Right next to Buffalo Bill's brewery, my favorite pizza and beer spot in downtown Hayward. Oh no! I hope they'll be friends. 🍻🍕

One of the most exciting things I've seen in my seven years at IBM is how much open source software originally developed for cloud-native environments is coming to IBM z/OS. Ansible! Apache Kafka! And OpenTelemetry! SHARE has posted a nice intro article about it here: blog.share.org/Article/what...

blog.share.orgWhat Is OpenTelemetry for IBM z/OS? — Intro to the Mainframe SeriesThis article is part of SHARE’s intro to the mainframe series. Read the articles on CICS, Automation, Catalogs, COBOL, and HSLAM. If you would like to contribute to this series, please reach out to ed...

IVRs keep getting worse 😭 I would be DELIGHTED if your website did the thing I want to do. I hate phone calls. But your uncanny valley robot is never helpful for complicated things that lead me to pick up the phone.

Shanah tova! We've had a nice Rosh Roshanah, and still have more apples and honey for tomorrow 🍎🍯 Along with the pomegranate we picked up at the farmers market this morning 😋

While I was at IBM zForum last month I had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Mattingly I'm sure I was wearing some computer-geeky earrings, which led him to share that he made some "Z" ones, and shared the STL file with me! This week we printed out a few pairs. Ta-da!

Made some apple cake with the kiddos last night because the green apple tree in our back yard has too many apples. It used 2 apples 😂 What do you love that can be made with apples? Last year I made apple butter, which I enjoyed and it used a lot of apples, but no one else in my house ate it.

My personal desktop dropped me into initramfs this morning and my work laptop took about 20+ minutes to apply firmware updates and do secret silent things at boot for a while. All is well now, but I did get strong "Maybe I should go back to bed 🤔" feelings for a chunk of time there 😂

I grew up in coastal Maine 🦞 Every show and movie you've watched about Maine is basically true 😂 (Just finished Best Medicine, and starting Widow's Bay, plus decades of Stephen King)

Concluded the long holiday weekend with a complicated reorganizing project (several spots with cascading dependencies) in the "it looks like a bomb went off" phase. So that's deeply unsatisfying 😝

"Mom, I don't want to go grocery shopping 😭😭😭" "Me neither, nobody wants to go grocery shopping!" "What?" As if adults go grocery shopping recreationally 🤣 No, we just have no fresh food left.

Yo, why isn't there a museum with a good dinosaur exhibit in the San Francisco Bay Area? It's very strange for a place with such a high density of adults who have a favorite dinosaur (brontosaurus, thanks for asking 🦕)

We all benefited from Dolly Parton's love and acceptance, and spectacular music, some more directly than others I learned today that her Imagination Library inspired PJ Library, the program that sends free Jewish books to children each month. Including my children 💕 www.nytimes.com/2011/06/25/u...

nytimes.comAiming to Spread Judaism One Book at a Time (Gift Article)Harold Grinspoon, a western Massachusetts real estate mogul, took a cue from Dolly Parton and started the PJ Library, which sends books with Jewish content to interested families.
