I looked at this picture, and my only thought was, "I wonder how many combs could you make out of that horn." I may need some specialised kind of therapy.

From this report on Donald Trump Jr's Mongolian shooting trip with a Kremlin-linked oligarch. "Federal records show the US embassy in Ulaanbaatar paid $18,715 in hotel rooms for an unspecified Secret Service 'visit' from August 23 to September 6." as.ft.com/r/701b15e0-3...

Footcloth (Art You Can Walk On) enthusiasts may note that B&Q have upgraded their linseed oil. That gold version has got to be better for our sophisticated craft.

The detail in the linked article about the Baron family, reed, heald and seive manufacturers, hairdressers, woolen drapers, hatters, outfitters and canary breeders is priceless local colour. #BayAreaTextiles

So the women in the first photo were indeed "dressed like witches", because their (now ceremonial) uniform was established around the same era witches were put on trial in New England. The truth is: witches are CREATED out of respectable older women by accusation & this is what they wore.

Lula remains the undisputed greatest progressive leader of the era. So happy. Can’t begin to describe the difference this makes around the world, not just Brazil

Oilcloth experiment update Trying four different fabrics with a thick kivver - more porridge than treacle. Will let you know how I get on. First one is currently favourite.

“When I look round the boardroom at the other board members Palantir has recently also recruited from the House of Lords – notably Lord Vader and Lord Voldemort – I don’t have any sense that these people are evil,” said Watson. From the new Private Eye, out now.

Oilcloth experiment update. Improved chalk-grinding technique for kivver. 1. Bash rock with hammer 2. Grind pebbles to rough grains 3. Lutrate with water imto paste 4. Spread and dry it overnight 5. Regrind a bit 6. Sieve out the recalcitrant bits Maybe I should pay that £4/kilo for ready-ground!

Coating is better now. Added some kaolin to see if base white colour improves and scraped it on a more open weave jute canvas. 1st coat fills the weave nicely

After 12 hours of drying, the kivver has the consistency of linseed oil putty (cos that's essentially what it is), so scrape off any excess and mend your window frames with it. This will help the base coat to dry quicker.

A tip for block-printing your foot cloth - buy unfashionable stick-on vinyl tiles at your car boot sale for minimal £. Peel off the nasty hard top layer to reveal easily carvable 'lino' beneath with sticky back intact. Carve shape, stick to block. Simples.

This morning, I considered whether the Wapentake of Ewecross could logically be included in my Bay Area studies. On the advice of Rev Thomas Dunelm Whitaker, I have concluded that it belongs with Lonsdale and Amunderness.

The point is, which sheep can I include in my definition of the Bay Area Fibreshed? By including Ewecross I get British Wool collection points, the Bentham sheep market, Farfield Mill and the Rough Fells of the Howgills. I claim this Wapentake! It is not Yorkshire!

Whereas I stare at it and think, "That's not hay, it's flax." Turner may not have known the difference, or I may be wrong. Any thoughts, digital people?

Otherwise, it's a Disney stage set of the heyday of British retailing with a clientele of footloose global nepo babies and the occasional octageneration coming back for a couple of yards of the fabric she bought in the 1970s.

This kind of thing makes me particularly mad. Liberty was a sustainable system of value built over 150 years. Design, production, productization, retailing, delivery and customer service. Reduced to one label amongst many for bored shoppers in an airport bazaar.

Up in that there London yesterday I was shocked to find that the carpet department of the Liberty store in Regents Street has closed. Apparently this outrage was perpetrated last May. Those responsible will never be forgiven! elitetraveler.com/lifestyle/li...
