“When we see or read stories about physicians leaving clinical practice to pursue alternative careers, leaving behind years of training, mountains of student loans and countless patient connections, we are devastated that so many are losing their passion for this calling.”

PNHP president Dr. Diljeet Singh set the record straight on physician moral injury, which is often misdiagnosed as “burnout.” She told the On Becoming a Healer podcast that currently practicing physicians can “come be an advocate with us [and] we can change the system” that is harming our patients.

#TBT our 2019 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, where Dr. Abdul El-Sayed delivered an inspirational keynote: “Doctors, Politics & Medicare for All” It should come as no surprise that physicians are yearning, and organizing, for a real solution to our health care crisis: improved Medicare for All.

TW: Suicide and self harm. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988. Dr. Joy Evers shares the story of how her corporate health insurance plan failed her family when they needed it the most. Delays and denials can be deadly—we need comprehensive health coverage for everybody.

“In the coming years, as politicians debate ‘universal healthcare,‘ we need those words to be much more than a campaign slogan. Healthcare must be a true human right, easily exercised by every single person in America. We can and we will make that right a reality with Medicare for All.”

Remembering PNHP past president Dr. John Geyman, who died last month at the age of 95. A prolific writer, Geyman authored more than 160 journal articles and 20 books. In his retirement, he became a vocal advocate for healthcare reform by writing books and pamphlets championing single-payer reform.

Deprivatization “could save Ohioans between $450 and $850 million a year...simplify the system, [and] increase participation from doctors who don't currently accept Medicaid.” The same holds true for every other state that contracts with corporate health insurers to administer Medicaid benefits.

Did you know: Medicare for All would allocate capital funding based on community need—not the potential to deliver huge profits to investors? Building and upgrading hospitals and clinics in this manner would dramatically expand access for marginalized Americans, and would save countless lives.

As we put it in our latest video: driving is one of the most dangerous things we do as Americans. This is a teaser of our full video on the Archer & Kedzie Ave safe streets project, where we talk about just how deadly American roads are, and how protected bike lanes make them safer for everyone!

Chicago's Archer Ave has been in the news a lot lately - so we went out in April to talk to some advocates who support the improvements, dive into the data behind the project (and safe streets in general), got comment from Alderwoman Ramirez, and a whole lot more!
