Most organisations today could extract more business value from their GIS by moving the entire stack to a single S3 bucket of raw files, a text file describing the contents, and their favourite AI coding agent. Come at me.

Wild watching the SailGP crash between NZ and France, and the follow-up that is focused on the number of boats & racing format rather than the physical safety of the machines. Coutts suggesting that sailors "know the risk" and it's like F1.

Well F1 got safe by getting incredibly serious about building survival cells, along with a range of other devices. If you want to be like F1, figure how to make crashes survivable! </rant>

Coutts minimizing double compound leg fractures with "nobody was really seriously injured" and they should "perhaps respond in a better way in future" but "there is an element of danger and the athletes know it" is just.. red flags all over the place.

> ..roll out in three phases: stabilising critical systems, modernising platforms, and enabling innovative healthcare models.. seems reasonable > ..a collaboration between Health New Zealand and global experts in AI and process engineering.. Ah ok expensive disaster.

I'm sorry, you just halved the size of Te Whatu Ora's IT department, and NOW phase 1 is stabilising critical systems? and the claim that any part of this organisation could deliver one project every month is also deeply entertaining comedy, and utter drivel. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

Oddly enough NZ has a thriving medical tech industry. but no one is an MP long enough to get fired for a multi-decade long Salesforce/IBM/whatever debacle.

Here we gooooo #gischat

Also proud to be providing childcare & travel grant assistance. If you're in New Zealand and you just want to network, the Business 2 Business event is on $NZ 25 and open to everyone. Come along for an afternoon and find out what the OSGeo community is all about.

It's only a constitutional crisis if one or more branches actually dissented. No, the USA has a constitutional conspiracy.

The New Yorker asked me “how bad” today’s Supreme Court ruling was. I boiled it down to one paragraph: link.newyorker.com/view/5bda429...

Earth Sciences NZ, our new center of excellence for environmental science in New Zealand, uses this image as their logo / hero image on their website. It's.. wrong. Wrong in a 6-fingered AI generated human way. Not an auspicious start to the agency's future. #gischat

And for my kiwi tech friends - this might be the most impactful software conference you could attend this year. FOSS4G is a global gathering of developers and users of foundational technology behind so much software we use daily. You're guaranteed to learn something new & meet interesting people.

Never not a deeply interesting, insightful and relevant discord.

It's true that progressives valorize "ugliness." But I think this person doesn't interrogate this position enough and thus lands at the wrong conclusion. Let me give you my perspective on ugliness. 🧵

Logo trends are interesting. Forget the omni-app rainbow, or tech blue-on-white, AI is all about the stark monochrome.

Newmarket has never quite figured out what it's for - and maybe the mall is bad for street retailers - but I don't recall them thriving during the rebuild. The mall was and remains the biggest draw to the strip.

Rare to see a story about business turnover grounded in evidence (the effect on Main Street retailers of giant shopping malls) www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3606...

Wondered if there was a Māori name for Rosebank Peninsula. Got Google's confidently incorrect (and confusingly plausible) answer.
