poking around with bloodstained's randomizer a little bit now. i got the dantalion familiar (the cursed book) super early. i never used it in my regular run, so i never knew that every time you save it says "another page in your story... writteeennnnnnnn" in an old man voice. awesome

i only just noticed nathan fielder is out of focus in the background of the you can see everything poster. i was so distracted by elizabeth holmes's petrifying gaze

it is funny to watch cyberpunk edgerunners after having read neuromancer a few months ago. like half of that show is taken from that book, either directly or indirectly through its influence on the rest of the genre. they do go in a different direction by focusing on cyberpsychosis, but still

i haven't watched the show yet but god the discourse surrounding bunlith is depressing. peoples' tendency to hate watch indie cartoons and nitpick them to death and talk like shareholders about it mixed with the eagerness to tear down anything made by a trans woman. we can't have anything

the worst is when i see young transfems joining in on the dogpile being like "well I'M trans and i think it's cringe!" in an effort to prove they're One Of The Cool Ones. if you were in the spotlight they'd turn on you too. doesn't matter how cool or un-quirk chungus you think you are

i finally got the crissaegrim equivalent in bloodstained so i am now unstoppable. i'm not sure i even got it on my original switch playthrough lol. they really make you work for it, though i suppose having to go out of your way to craft it is better than it being an insanely rare drop

the thing with the crissagrim in sotn is that it's a crazy broken sword that's a rare drop from a random enemy that most people in the '90s wouldn't find, but if you DID it'd be this playground rumor thing. but you can't do that now that everyone will just look up guides online and grind for it

watched carrie (1976) and right as the credits rolled and i was pondering the haunting final act prime video asked me if i would like to follow it up by watching napoleon dynamite

after that i looked up what's different in the new mike flanagan carrie show out of curiosity and all the changes to the story sound really stupid. i don't think i'll be watching that

filled out my ballot for the general election. if we get angie nixon in as a DSA member senator and randy fine out as my rep that'll do so much for my mental health

you like a thing that's old? that's just nostalgia. can't get with the times. stick in the mud chud. you like a thing that's new? recency bias. bandwagoning. consoomer easily distracted by jangling keys. the solution is to not like anything

i still like the way the new robot masters feel distinctly mega man without literally 100% sticking to previous aesthetic tropes. like tank man here has classic robot master eyes but they look painted on, and he's got a vent mouth instead of a human face. it's fun

windows reset all the default apps i open different file types with and made edge my default browser after an update. my hatred for windows 11 grows with every day

started watching edgerunners (s1) subbed, but it felt wrong to watch it in japanese given the american setting, english soundtrack, etc. so i switched to the dub. i never would have known that the ripperdoc has a haitian accent. lot of accent work in general that feels important to the setting

they should invent a new season where it's not hot out all the time but also it isn't dark at 7pm. i would really appreciate that

anyway thank you bioware for making the game that indirectly led to my fursona becoming a canon sonic character

the bioware news is tragic but also i feel like we've all just been waiting for this day since the acquisition in 2007. EA was already known for gutting studios long before bioware's years of mismanagement or our current era of mass layoffs and closures. they'd already killed origin in 2004

to me the existential threat posed by AI slop games is less "AI slop games will steal our sales" and more "the onslaught of AI slop and the exhaustion over having to second guess every new game will make people mentally check out from supporting new games at all and retreat to their backlogs"

which is a sentiment i actively see people express on here all the time. all the posts about how they've already got enough new games for a lifetime and might stop buying more, or they're just going to emulate ps2 games forever. don't let the slop make you afraid to engage with new art at all, man

see also all the people who liked browsing steam next fest demos saying they don't know if they can take the amount of AI slop anymore. barely any of those slop games are going to sell any copies, but they're poisoning the well for the rest of us and ruining another avenue for discoverability

the first wave has harpuia and leviathan in it. just coming out swinging. blokees make legends and zx kits and my heart is yours forever

i am however thankful in a way that they're not doing robot masters right out the gate, so that the jada figures don't feel like they've immediately been replaced lol

the way the term "user-generated content" or "UGC" gets used is so alien to me. in my world it means, like, people making their own littlebigplanet levels. not "MLMs getting people to shill products on tiktok"

anyway i got an email from some company that wanted me to pay them to do AI-generated "UGC" ads for slarpg on social media and i told the guy to gargle my balls

i forgot they're adapting absolute batman into a cartoon. hopefully it works out better than DC's previous direct to DVD attempts to animate legendary batman comics. at least scott snyder's writing it himself, and nick dragotta is also on board

i just don't want an adaptation that takes dragotta's dense page layouts that look crazy good even in dialogue scenes and makes it look like invincible

changed something in slarpg's back end with a few new lines of code and some trial and error and i don't think i broke the game yaaaay

specifically i'm trying to get it so that damaging status effects can KO, which i always wanted. this is a setting built into the rpg maker editor, but some of my statuses are set up with a yanfly script that hard coded them to stop at 1 hp for whatever reason, so i had to rewrite that a bit

the problem i was encountering then was that party members would get KO'd without playing the KO sound, and enemies would get KO'd but leave their sprites on screen. so i scripted it to manually play the proper collapse effects. i'll of course keep an eye on this, but i think it's all working now!

after i realized cusdis was dead i tried reaching out about a data export to preserve the old comments on my blog posts, since they said they'd do that on github. but now it's been three weeks with no response

hope is not completely lost though as at least SOME of the blog comments were preserved via wayback machine uploads of my blog posts. as always, archive dot org is a lifesaver. so i guess i could try to manually copy those over if i got a new comment host

i'm limited to the selection of five comment hosts with official publii plugins, so right now i might be leaning towards hyvor? seems big enough that it won't randomly shut down like cusdis, but also not as shitty as disqus. i'd have to pay a sub but i could try to write it off as a business expense
