Something tells me this movie trivia game was made with AI…

7 Sept

When you can’t turn off your filmmaking brain and ruin documentaries for yourself: ”Wait, those two shots were not shot at the same time. Is he responding to something else? Did they do separate takes? I can see her mouth moving in his shot but she’s not speaking”

7 Sept

”The lenses in the close ups don’t look that long, the cameras would be visible in the wide. How long did they sit like that while they rearranged cameras?”

In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ronald Lacey didn’t know his face was going to melt and his reaction is genuine. I love learning film trivia on social media!

I misread the headline as one movie and got very excited for a moment…

I recently tripped and fell while running. I mentioned this in a WhatsApp conversation and joked that I’m too old to run at 45. Now I’m getting ads like this…

A weird side effect of seeing all these Hollywood blockbuster style AI videos is that I get less and less interested in watching actual Hollywood blockbusters. It’s kind of like when someone makes a parody of a genre that’s so accurate that it ruins it and you can’t see/do it the same way again.

I think now that anyone can make Marvel style visuals we’ll see some really interesting stuff, maybe with a grungier more ”handmade” feel. Since you can’t compete by going bigger and flashier you’ll have to compete by being more interesting and unique. That’s my hope anyway.

I guess I should have read the measurements and not just looked at the picture…

The last three Spanish films I’ve seen; The Coffee Table, Kidnapped, and Cell 211 have all been so incredibly bleak. Spain are you ok?

Watched 131 films this year. Mostly older films that were new to me. Favorite from this year: One Battle After Another. Weapons is up there too.

Most disturbing film watched: Kidnapped (2010). Brutal and bleak watch. Some impressive technical feats like the long unbroken takes and a head smash that almost rivals Irreversible. But man, you just feel bad after watching.

It’s funny how the compression removes so much of the grain that it looks more like 16mm film or something.

When you record a long YouTube video and don’t notice that the overhead mic is slowly sagging into frame so you have to reshoot it… 😞

Many times I’ve gotten these on the first try but yesterday I didn’t… 😳 (You only see a little bit of the image at first and more is revealed with each guess)

I just learned they’re doing a ”Dancing with the Stars” and ”Shark Week” mashup called ”Dancing with Sharks”. Like, how do you even make jokes anymore?

16 May 2025

Very puzzled by this bit in ”The Spiral Staircase”. She’s standing in front of a mirror but in the wide shots it’s clearly not a mirror but a flat picture (without her reflection). Very obvious when camera moves. What could be the reason for this?

16 May 2025

Trying to avoid seeing a non-existent part of the set? Avoid seeing lights?

17 May 2025

I found what appears to be a production still where you can see there’s no background in the mirror, only black, so it was probably done because there was no set back there.

16 May 2025

You don’t have to shoot horror in actual low light

15 May 2025

If you didn’t get that Bogart is evil in ”The Petrified Forest” the way they frame him against the background may give some subtle hints…
