Phew! That was close! 1%🪫

Sent myself to Coventry today for a spot of retro nerdery. www.tickettailor.com/events/fusio...

I made a thing to keep up with what's new and updated in #Flathub #Linux. It even has an #RSS feed for those that still love it. flathubupdates.popey.com/

Added a natty chart to my #snapcraft store publishing tracker. The number of new snaps is up and to the right! 📈 snapupdates.popey.com/?range=90 #linux #ubuntu

🎙️ Meet Myna! Local, privacy-friendly speech-to-text is coming to #Ubuntu #Linux Desktop. Try the tech preview and let us know what you think! 🐧 ⤵️ discourse.ubuntu.com/t/try-myna-s...

Been working on this recently. The currently supported vendors are at linuxmachines.popey.com/vendors . Still got more to add. #linux linuxmachines.popey.com

DDoS on Canonical and Ubuntu websites (again). discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ddos-on-ca...

Amazon has some "details" about me to "personalise" my "experience". It essentially amounts to "has a cat" and probably "takes photos of cats".

If you were buying a new or used #Linux laptop, what would your preferred vendor and/or marketplace be?

My Calibre snap for #linux has just crested 1K device installs, not bad in two weeks. snap-charts.popey.com/?view=metric...

Symbolical is a GPL-licensed maths worksheet app for Linux, in the same vein as MathCAD. Mix equations, calculations, units, functions, text, images and graphs in one document, then print or export it to PDF. Now in the Snap Store:

Bold assertion with a typo on the box.

Any of you done an M1 MacBook Air screen replacement? How'd it go? Daughter's screen is broken, and I'm tempted to get a random repair kit to give it a couple more years of life. Thoughts? geni.us/6uBs4q

Last few hours on the AI DevCon CFP. If you’re going as an attendee instead, tickets are open for Brooklyn on 2-4 November and I have a chunky discount code with your name on it. DM me.

StreetComplete on iOS is now in public beta! #openstreetmap #apple github.com/streetcomple...

Son seems to be enjoying university life...

Episode 91 of Linux Matters: Old man hands 🐧️🎙️ Alan does a job switcheroo, Martin does a notes switcheroo, and Mark does a backdrop switcheroo.

The AI DevCon CFP shuts on Thursday. If your talk has been sat in a drafts folder since August, now’s the moment.

Support building understanding of the use of open source in the UK and its value by completing our survey by 5 Oct. Share information on your organisation's use of open source, regardless of sector. International survey closes on 31 Oct. openuk.uk/report/survey/

#Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS released... discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-26-...

Sunday night, so here’s your reminder that AI DevCon tickets are open and I’m sitting on a discount code that makes a real difference to the price. Brooklyn, 2-4 November. DM me.

Incus 7.5 brings OVN child networks, live instance moves between projects, improved VM support, new metrics, and 11 security fixes. linuxiac.com/incus-7-5-ad... #Containers #Virtualization #OpenSource

I made a snap of Calibre which will help #Ubuntu (and other #Linux) users, who want to keep up with the latest releases of the upstream app.

Remember Banshee? The #Linux music player, not the screaming spirit. I’ve dusted it off, fixed a bunch of things, and put it in the Snap Store. Podcasts, LastFm scrobbling and Internet Archive playback work again! 🎵 snapcraft.io/banshee

An update to my little retro screensaver I call "Saturday Night"... Feature requests and other suggestions most welcome. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x8n...

The best thing about AI DevCon is who turns up. Mostly people who’ve had coding agents loose on a real codebase for a year and have firm opinions about how that went. Brooklyn, 2-4 November. DM me for a chunky discount code.

Interested in the next OggCamp? We're on hold, for the moment... but, you can help! www.oggcamp.org/posts/oggcam...

We’re setting up a brand-new retro computing event in SW London! Join me on a quick scout of St Mark’s Church Hall in Surbiton as we check out the hall layout, scope out desk space, and sort the all-important food and fuel situation. youtu.be/j0g9pOliSkg

Two weeks until the AI DevCon CFP closes on 1 October. Reviews are rolling, so earlier is better than 30 September. Brooklyn, 2-4 November.

I made a not-quite-screensaver for my MangMi Air X. It's a little virtual lounge with a console on the shelf and a TV playing clips from my retro game collection, lit mostly by the TV. #blender #godot www.youtube.com/watch?v=fB_K...

Looking forward to this! #kde #linux

AI DevCon is at Industry City in Brooklyn, so the corridor conversations happen somewhere with daylight and decent coffee instead of a windowless convention hall. Underrated feature. 2-4 November. DM me for a discount code.

Finally found a good use for my 1st generation iPad running iOS 5. A world clock web app served over http only to avoid ssl/tls issues with ancient Safari. 😂

Two days of AI DevCon in Brooklyn is $300, or $400 with the workshop day. That’s already cheap for a conference in New York. My discount code takes a serious chunk off that. DM me for it, more off again if you’re bringing a team.

Anyone in or near New York, this one’s on your doorstep. AI DevCon is at Industry City in Brooklyn on 2-4 November, so for once the good agentic coding conference doesn’t involve a flight. DM me, I’ve got a chunky discount code going spare.

Banshee lives! 🎶 Bringing a classic #Linux music player back with a fresh snap, working podcasts, LastFM scrobbling and a little Yaru polish.

Got an old, slow laptop gathering dust? Bring it to Glasgow's Software Freedom Day repair café on 19 Sept — #OpenSource Glasgow will help you fix it up or install #Linux, free. Details: discourse.ubuntu.com/t/software-f...

Three weeks left on the AI DevCon CFP. Closes 1 October. The one I’d most like to see is where the agent rollout went sideways and you had to unpick it. Nobody submits that talk and everybody wants to watch it.

AI DevCon’s programme splits four ways: context and harness engineering, orchestrating multiple agents, the platforms teams build so agents can’t do damage, and rolling any of it out across a big org. Brooklyn, 2-4 November. DM me for a code.

The latest release of Pioneer Space Simulator is out. Changelog: github.com/pioneerspace... snapcraft.io/pioneer

Not a bad little haul from the herb garden 🪴

I found this thread quite interesting. Someone set their computer date to 4026 and the machine no longer boots. (no, not DNS). www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeCode...

Small thing people miss about AI DevCon: there’s a workshop day on 2 November before the conference proper. Hands on keyboards, not slides. The all-access pass covers it. DM me for a discount code.

Glasgow: bring your old laptop to Software Freedom Day (19 Sept) and Open Source Glasgow will repair it or install #Linux for free: discourse.ubuntu.com/t/software-f...

Episode 89 of Linux Matters: Peering into the Tube 🐧️🎙️ Martin connects a mouse and keyboard over Tailscale, Mark plays a recreation of an N64 classic, and Alan creates a PeerTube instance.

Back from a week off and still banging on about AI DevCon. Brooklyn, 2-4 November, and the room is mostly people running agents against real codebases rather than demoing them. DM me for a chunky discount code.

We have replaced the #YouTube embeds in our show pages with our #PeerTube hosted ones. We discuss this in Episode 89 of #Linux Matters, out later today! video.linuxmatters.net/c/linuxmatte...
