Done! Two work sessions for a scenario in which the player will spend no more than 20 seconds. But, hey. It'll be worth it.

Now that the pain is starting to ease, I’ve decided to get back to doing pixel art today. It’s not bad, considering I did it with half a hand out of action. 😅

My hand injury is keeping me from making much progress on the game. So I’ve been polishing up the text, sending what I have so far out for testing, and implementing this little thing I’m proud of: Some items are animated both when you hover over them and when you select them.

Good news: I'm about to finish the first chapter of my new game.🥳 Bad news: In a silly accident, I fractured a finger on my right hand. I can't continue developing the game until the bandages are removed and the pain subsides 😬

This museum was integrated into The Dark Rites of Arkham for several reasons. One was narrative: you’ll have to solve a puzzle there. Another was to give those unfamiliar with H.P. Lovecraft a quick introduction to his themes and obsessions. 🧵

The inspiration comes from the wonderful The Lost Crown by Darkling Room. In Saxton, there’s a museum where you can immerse yourself in the town’s historyor simply have a good time, as it has no impact on solving the puzzles. I’ve always thought it was a fantastic idea.

In the new game in dev, there'll be a museum inspired by Gabriel Knight 2 & 3, more focused on the background of your investigation. Visit museums! It's enriching, broadens your horizons, and if you're a dev, can spark great ideas!

The museum itself is based on the L.A. Paranormal Museum, which appears in my first game: Urban Witch Story. The same thing happened there. You can go in and head straight for an object that will solve a puzzle, or you can get lost in its rooms and take a break from the gameplay.

I've been away from AGS and Photoshop for a couple of weeks now, and it'll probably be a few more weeks before I'm back. I've been making games (almost) non-stop since 2020, and I think I've earned a well-deserved break. 👇

The tone of the game is more serious this time around. There are very few of the little touches of humor that were so well received in the previous games. But don't worry. It still has all the DNA of a Postmodern game.

One of the reasons I don't flood your timeline every three hours with posts about my games being on sale during the Steam's sales is that it barely makes any difference. Social media or not, my sales stay about the same. And they're good numbers! 👇

I don't know if constantly posting about discounts works for other developers. I guess X and Bluesky are no longer effective marketing tools for increasing sales. It's Steam, with its algorithms and its magic, that really gets a game in front of players.

And of course, word of mouth is far more effective than forty posts on social media. So if you enjoy an adventure game, tell people about it! These days, it's the most powerful marketing tool indie developers have!

For example, this sale has been the most successful one since I started making games. We're talking about thousands of copies sold, and I only made one post several days after it had already started. And trust me, that post isn't what drove the increase in sales.

New Game Status: - The game has a title now! - 12 of the 14 backgrounds that will make up the first act are finished and fully implemented. - Matías has finished an original song that can be heard on one of the in-game radio stations. Things are moving forward!

I love WEG, but... 2005: Bone, Nibiru, Still Life, The Moment of Silence... 2006: Ankh, Barrow Hill, Broken Sword 4, Paradise, Scratches, Dreamfall, Sam and Max Season 1... 2007: Jack Keane, Reprobates, Overclocked, Runaway 2, Secret Files: Tunguska, Sherlock Holmes: The Awakening...

Weird Game Designer Facts #14 Dave Gilbert of Wadjet Eye Games basically resurrected the graphic adventure as a viable game genre. By 2006, when he released his first game, The Shivah, graphic adventures were dead as a commercial medium. They had only rarely ever sold more than 100k copies.

I guess you’ve seen me praise a certain game in development that I couldn’t talk about. Well, here it is: The Pactmaker. Probably my GOTY of 2027. The best thing I can say about it is that it feels and plays like a lost game from @wadjeteyegames.bsky.social. AND... 🧵

I'm so excited to finally announce my first game: THE PACTMAKER! A supernatural point-and-click thriller about pacts, guilt, consequences... and many, many books. 📚 Coming to Steam & itch next year. Watch the first trailer 👇 and Wishlist now:

At that very moment, the game goes from being very good to something touched by excellence. I’m sorry I can’t say more. That’s something every player has to experience for themselves, because I’m absolutely certain you’ve never come across anything like it.

That alone would be enough to recommend the game. But at a certain point in the story, The Pactmaker does something I’ve never seen in an adventure game, something very, very risky. Something that goes beyond breaking the fourth wall and… it works!
