Today is International Fact-Checking Day. It's no coincidence that it falls on right after April Fools' Day. For now, disinformation doesn't seem to recognise the existence of this day dedicated to verification. A shame, really...

Which cinnamon roll is better: the fluffy American-Polish version or the firmer Stockholm one? What if your AI assistant's answer was shaped by manipulated articles? At #UkraineVision, we showed how AI-assisted disinformation really works. The roll was a pretext for the bigger conversation.

How is the state of online disinformation in Europe on VLOPs? Within the #SIMODS project we developed structural indicators to monitor it scientifically. TikTok, X/Twitter and YouTube contain more problematic than credible content in checked samples. What else?

1 in 4 mis/disinformation posts on TikTok and nearly 1 in 5 on YouTube contain AI-generated content. Over 83% of these carry no label. Health misinformation remains the dominant category on all platforms, representing approx. 43% of all identified mis/disinformation posts.

Fact-checking posts in social media deserves more recognition! To help achieve that, we've joined the FACTory Project — an initiative aimed at improving the visibility of materials created by organisations like ours and adapting them to current online standards. #FACTory is co-funded by the EU.

Jak podchodzić do dezinformacji i komunikacji strategicznej międzysektorowo? Podczas 18. Forum Gospodarczego TIME 9 marca o 16:00 w Warszawie w debacie eksperckiej na ten temat weźmie udział prezes naszego stowarzyszenia, Jakub Śliż. Dziękujemy za zaproszenie! Szczegóły: fgtime.pl #KIGEiT #ICT

We need to go back to basics and focus on sources. It is a huge challenge currently to capture people's attention to facts.  Collaboration, media literacy and rebuilding trust in journalism. These aspects were mosted discussed during „Disinfoverse. Different Dimensions of (Un)Certainty”.

‘Hungary is unlucky – it has ended up with an intelligent tyrant.’ This sentence will stay with us. During our visit in Budapest as a part of Polish-Hungarian cooperation under the auspices of Instytut im. Waldemara Felczaka, it became clear how profoundly the Hungarian media landscape has changed.

During the seminar, Jakub Śliż presented the Polish perspective, paying particular attention to the impact of artificial intelligence on the information environment and how different countries – including Poland and Hungary – are responding to the challenges of AI and disinformation.

The system, which once was based on pluralism and independence, has now been almost completely subordinated to the interests of the authorities. Disinformation has become part of the official state narrative.

This, in turn, has real implications for the country's future: – a decline in foreign investment, – marginalisation on the European stage – and growing poverty despite its rich history, potential and strong traditions.

Russian actors are increasingly targeting Africa’s information environment with #softpower and #AI. Through the Moscow-based #AfricanInitiative agency, Kremlin-linked operatives are rolling out a hybrid strategy that combines online campaigns with offline operations to steer foreign policy

Long-term tactics include collaborations with influencers, orchestrated events, and the creation of new NGOs that appear independent while pushing a pro-Russian agenda. This well-oiled playbook is being exported to countries like Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal.
