The monk

"We do normal here." Then you’ve already decided nothing exceptional is allowed to happen.

"Keep it simple." Simple is fine. Simplistic is cowardice.

"Don’t make it bigger than it is." That’s how nothing important ever gets built. Small thinking, small results.

"Everyone is equal." Equal in value, not in output. Pretending otherwise just protects mediocrity.

"That’s good enough." No it isn’t. It’s the exact point where you chose comfort over anything worth doing.

"Don’t stand out." Why not. So everyone can stay equally forgettable?

"Be normal." I won’t. Normal is just fear that learned how to speak politely.

"Just act normal, that’s crazy enough." No. That’s not wisdom, that’s surrender dressed up as advice.

"Just do normal." A lifetime strategy for achieving absolutely nothing memorable, but very efficiently.

"We do normal here." Of course you do. That way no one has to explain why nothing remarkable ever happens.

"Keep it simple." Not clarity. Reduction. Strip it down until nothing interesting survives.

"Don’t make it bigger than it is." Every great idea reduced to something manageable, forgettable, and safe.

"Be normal, then you’re already doing crazy." If normal is the bar, then the bar is on the floor and we’re congratulating ourselves for not tripping over it.

"Everyone is equal." Used less as a principle, more as a ceiling.

"That’s good enough." The moment potential is politely escorted out of the building.

"Don’t stand out." Not advice. Containment policy for ambition.

"Be normal." Translation: file down anything exceptional until it no longer causes discomfort. Never ever just be normal.

"Just act normal, that’s crazy enough." A phrase only to follow if you give up on living

"Just act normal, that’s crazy enough." A philosophy built on pre-emptive self-censorship. Don’t fail, don’t shine, just quietly exist in the middle.

"Just act normal, that’s crazy enough." Normal is just a socially approved way of never finding out what you’re actually capable of.

"I will just look the cat out of the tree." I will observe, do nothing, and call it strategy.

"There is no single ball of it." There is no coherent part of this. It is chaos, but in bullet points.

"I see bears on the road." I see problems everywhere. None of them are bears, but the energy is identical.

"He is a bit strange out of the corner." Not fully broken, just… architecturally questionable.

"You fall with your nose in the butter." I too arrive just in time to benefit from something I did not contribute to. A talent, really.

"We will make it cosy." We will dim the lights, add candles, and collectively ignore the problem until it becomes part of the decor.

"That hits like a pair of pliers on a pig." It’s not just wrong, it’s aggressively, confidently wrong. A bold strategy.

"Be realistic." Realistic is just ambition with the risk removed and the reward diluted.

"Fit in." Fitting in is just disappearing, but slowly enough that no one notices.

"Act like everyone else." Why. So we can all arrive at the same forgettable outcome together?

"Now the monkey comes out of the sleeve." Excellent. I was worried the conversation might remain normal. Thank you for releasing the hidden primate of truth.

"Just do normal." No. Normal is the fastest way to guarantee you never matter.

"Think outside the box." I did. There is no box. There never was a box. There’s just me, outside, holding a lid, pretending I understand the assignment.

"Just do it." I did. There was no follow-up instruction. Now I’m standing here with consequences and no sequel.

"Time is money." Then I have been making some truly baffling investments.

"Winning isn’t everything." Correct. Losing, however, is extremely thorough and leaves detailed feedback.

"Shoot for the stars." I aimed high, missed entirely, and now I’m responsible for explaining that trajectory.

"Rise and grind." I rose. The grind will have to wait for further notice.

"Hustle culture." I am hustling. Mostly to the fridge, but the pace is impressive.

"Work hard, play hard." I worked hard, then lay on the floor like a dropped puppet and questioned my life choices.

"Go big or go home." I went medium and stayed home. It’s efficient and significantly less embarrassing.

"Fake it till you make it." I faked it so well I forgot what “making it” was supposed to look like.

"Pull yourself up by your bootstraps." I tried. I fell over. Turns out physics has opinions on that phrase.

"The customer is always right." The customer is often confused, occasionally aggressive, and once tried to return a sandwich emotionally.

"It’s never too late." It is occasionally too late. That is why we have the phrase “too late.”

"You can do anything." I can attempt anything. The results are often educational for others.

"Stay in your lane." I tried. My lane merged, disappeared, and is now being repurposed as a cycle path.

"Listen to your heart." My heart suggested snacks and a lie down. It is not a strategic thinker.

"Progress, not perfection." I have achieved neither, but I have produced a very convincing illusion of activity.

"Everything will work out." Eventually, yes. Possibly not in my favour, but it will definitely resolve into something.
