In addition to all of the fabulous art and culture contributed in earlier history. Think Toledo blades, Optical devices; Ibn Al-Haytham 1065 or Al-Khwarizmi, 820 who's mathematical works introduced the 0 to a broader world. It one of those 'What have the Romans ever done for us' moments.

Initially dismissed by male peers as a "decorative artist," her intense visual accuracy led to real scientific breakthroughs. She documented ~900 species; a genus (Northia) & the massive Bornean pitcher plant (Nepenthes northiana; she was the first non-local to find it 👇) bear her name. #WomenInSTEM

Our country stands at a critical crossroads. Change must occur - but what kind of change? And crucially, for who? I'm presenting our alternative vision for this country at the National Press Club this Wednesday, 12:30pm AEDT. Tune in live on ABC TV & iView.

Robodebt is inherently unjust. Services Australia need to do better

Antipoverty Centre@antipovertycentre.org

Why does the government insist on trying to recover blood from a stone? If they want to aggressively recover so-called debts from people who've relied on Centrelink payments, they should at least wait until they can actually afford to live. @kristin8x.antipovertycentre.org on the latest debt BS

Historian Henry Reynolds wrote this in mid 2025. He’s writing about the extraordinary times we’re living in. Our PM used the word pathology last week to drum up hate against protesters with RW media. If there is an illness, it starts with unaccountable gov #auspol johnmenadue.com/post/2025/07...

They certainly don't need more revenue. WHAT THEY DO NEED IS TO GET RID OF THE HORRENDOUSLY EXPENSIVE $368B AUKUS! Aside from the expense this project has exactly the opposite effect to making Australia safer.

Start by reducing politicians' pay towards the global average. Our pollies are currently 6th on the scale of world administrator's salaries.

Yes, like John Howard, ON show no understanding of what racism is. Sociology 101 should be prescribed for all entering parliament

IMO all public primary schools/kindergartens/pre-schools SHOULD also incorporate childcare using taxpayer money instead of paying for profit businesses... more accountability with fees scaled on household income @albomp.bsky.social #AusPol #AusNews www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

Just what we need, more bs information, higher power price and water scarcity #datacentre

“New economic analysis released today by the Smart Energy Council warns that the rapid expansion of #datacentres could add hundreds of dollars a year to household power bills & drive up electricity costs by $40 billion over six years”. Well, duh. #renewables #AI smartenergy.org.au/dirty-data-t...

🧪 A new study found care recommended by LLMs costs 3.2x more than plans from treating physicians ($314 vs. $97 per visit at Medicare rates). Across 200 real clinical encounters, AI ordered 5.6x more specialist referrals and nearly 2x as many new medications. #MedSky

Yes, we are developing a bit of a history of governments ignoring their people: Vietnam, Iraq, and now Gaza, gas, gambling, Aukus. Overall, the people have been right

The 'social cohesion' problem in Australia is this: politicians elected by us & payed by us do not want to listen to us THEIR BOSSES & PAYMASTERS. Here endeth my TED talk. #auspol

Of course poverty and inequality increase social unrest, distrust and crime. Great Australian Professor Sir Michael Marmot exposed this when proving the direct relationship between poverty and illness. Poverty causes stress and misery, dissatisfaction and distrust also arise from stress

Tony Cartledge@decentral21.bsky.social

We could fix this with brave policy like a UBI, but a fairer tax system and a sovereign wealth fund would go a long way towards eliminating poverty. But we need courageous leaders and they're only going to come from Independent movements. Make #Auspol Fair Again. thepoint.com.au/new/261023-f...
