The coach helping with the choreography asked me what sit spin ⛸️ I can do. I showed him this. That's how I found out it actually counts as a level 2 spin 😯 on the sit position it's not 3 rotations so I'd get a V, but still #figureskating

Kamila's & Benoit's "Mamma La Rondinella" ⛸️ SP feels a bit of cultural appropriation. Hold your pitchforks: it's always a tad cringe when skaters perform to folk music of a foreign country-Gubanova's bindi 😬? However, tarantella dance is not a *national* tradition, it is of 1 of Italy's 20 regions

I used the expression "cultural appropriation" with intent: often Southern Italy regions are negatively depicted for being lazy, indulgent, edonistic, when they simply enjoy life as one should, without conforming to capitalist expectations. It's something to treasure, but sadly negatively connotaded

In that sense I perceive Kamila's music choice and, frankly, horrid interpretation, as an act of disrespect rather than appreciation. My Italian guts are upset. Not approved 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

Therefore it's drastically intimate; what the tradition means to people from Puglia eludes even people like me from the Dolomites. Then again, maybe I'm prejudiced against the Russians. Or just a bitter old hag who's less open-minded than she thinks. I don't know...

New obsession unlocked. I did some digging: the choreographer is Andrea Venturi, founder of Ghiaccio Spettacolo, a production company behind live ice shows, where Carolina Kostner is always the star. You're welcome

PSA, errata corrige: Carolina Kostner IS Gioia's choreographer. I KNEW IT the moment I saw how Gioia was moving her arms and hands and hips to the music beat, the "miming" of the lyrics, down to the word. Tears of pure joy down my cheeks 🥲

Anastasia Konga - the version of "Don't Speak" she chose really suited her
