My mom taking me to a midnight screening of Rocky Horror in Georgetown when I was 10 years old in the early 80s remains a top cinematic experience in my life. Decades later, I was thrilled to screen it at my own theatre. Tim Curry was one of the most delicious actors of his era. Fair winds, Tim.

Nothing makes me happier than an epic character introduction in a movie. Michael Keaton’s entrance as Bill Blazejowski in Ron Howard’s ‘Night Shift’ remains one for the ages.

My one experience as a background extra was in a scene with #samneill and Meryl Streep in “A Cry in the Dark”. Sam was lovely and thanked all of us chilly teenagers for our patience during a cold long night in Central Australia.

The inevitable #vozinha biopic is going to be awesome. Last night’s match was the best I’ve watched since I started paying attention to the WC in ‘98. I do hope the filmmakers call it “Little Granny”. It’s the perfect origin story for a superhero. goalscorner.com/blogs/player...

It snowed once on Easter when I was kid living in the Denver suburbs back in the ‘70s. Some local wag fashioned a giant bunny foot out of plywood and went around the neighborhood making Easter Bunny tracks :) Fifty years later, I still smile about it. Well played, mysterious stranger.

My wife and I had a private audience with Jonathan the Tortoise back in 2023. That double-centenarian was randy AF. Not surprised to hear the news of his death was a hoax. He’s got plenty left in the tank…

1/ Absolutely gutted by the passing of Bud Cort. ‘Harold & Maude’ is more than just a film to me. It is a sacred, existential text to me. I bizarrely saw it as a young child as a double feature with Willy Wonka. (Seriously. And this should provide some insight into my psyche)

2/ I’ve seen the movie 100s of times in the decades since, often in inexplicable locations under surreal circumstances. I’ve also collected a number of oddities related to the movie, including the single most insane piece of entertainment history I own. For a time, Bud was roommates w Groucho Marx

3/ (Seriously). During COVID, I bought Marx’s autobiography inscribed to Colin Higgins (H&M’s author). The purchase incl. a typewritten account by Higgins of a bonkers evening Higgins spent with Marx & Bud Cort. I can do it no justice here. Fair winds, Bud. I am who I am thanks in part to you.

WaPo was part of my NoVA childhood in 70s/80s. My grandf worked their presses. Took him 15 min nightly scrubbing w Lava soap getting ink off his hands. Only grade school ed. but read every word in every issue and was world knowledgeable as anyone. So sad to witness the ruination of it.

1/ I’m an absolute nobody. However, it occurred to me that in six decades I’ve put together a rather eclectic, Forrest Gump-ian list of people I’ve been in proximity to, or even interacted with, that reads like ‘The Good, The Bad and the Beautiful’ :

2/ Princess Diana, Dr. Seuss, Paul McCartney, Mikhail Gorbachev, Desmond Tutu, Bob Hawke, Lindy Chamberlain, OJ Simpson, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Buzz Aldrin, RFK Jr, DJT, Bill Cosby, James Brown, William Shatner, Paul Newman, David Letterman, Kurt Vonnegut, King Charles, Pope Shenouda III

3/ Mark Messier, Muggsy Bogues, Tyra Banks, Christy Turlington, Laetitia Casta, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, John Leguizamo, Lenny Kravitz, Herve Villechaize, Oliver North, Don King, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Adrien Brody, Martha Stewart, Chuck Jones, Dee Snider, Mike Myers, Lyle Lovett, Jon Bon Jovi, Dan Ackroyd

I love that Richard Linklater includes #pinball machines in most of his films. I will be the film/pinball #nerd here however to point out Gottlieb’s Swing-Along came out in 1963… 3 years *after* Breathless.

#truestory I once saw Michael Moore interview O.J. Simpson. After his acquittal. Live. In front of a studio audience. For Fox Television. It happened. Google it. I’ve seen some crazy things, but this is near the top of that list.

“A night for my nose, a feast for my nose, smelling the stars, smelling the flowers, smelling the desert, and the dust asleep, across the top of Bunker Hill. The city spread out like a Christmas tree, red and green and blue. Hello, old houses, beautiful hamburgers singing in cheap cafes”
