Happened again ten minutes ago. I found the number for the apartment complex's security and made a report. The guy was VERY nice so I felt encouraged.

Psycho was back after eight days, only this time the voice was JUST OUTSIDE, and I heard "f*** you b***h" in the minute-long tirade. So I'm hoping whoever is living here must have broken up with him or something (no way, he sounds like such a catch) and maybe he'll gradually fade away as a presence.

*sigh* Gonna try again to get back to sleep. On top of it all, a neighbor (who I will complain to the office about separately) has chosen now to play their radio very loud. The A/C just about drowns it out and our bedroom is fairly isolated, though. Just... fuck that guy.

I spent most of tonight revising a comic to add foreshadowing for the second half of the book. This comic already ran on the Patreon, but it hasn't been made public yet, and nothing is EVER final until the book is published! Ha ha ha! That is the devious, devious benefit of webcomics!

Last time I'll bring this up, I promise, unless it stops for longer than a week or two. I did hear another quieter voice again after the latest outburst, and was able to endure it without my gut wrenching up. I don't feel like I'll be murdered in my sleep anymore, is what I'm saying.

started reading Projection Edge (@projectionedge.bsky.social) the other day during work lunch, after seeing some interesting pages reposted here... It really is interesting! The retro furry style is fun, and the pacing is nice and snappy. This funny bit here is where I've left off on today. (cont)

1.5 million ahead at 70% in. Lula's won. All the prognostications of Bolsanaro's lead in the first round meaning that, historically, he should win this one, are proving false. Man... I kind of wish we had that system. "SHIT! Voting for Harris now, cripes...." #politics

Thinking about it now, he doesn't have to die, just not run in 2020 so maybe hahahahaha no, I couldn't complete that with a straight face.

How to either make people envious or annoyed: Not only is there no COVID in the Newshoundsiverse... but That Guy dies before the 2020 election, leaving Pence to run. I need to involve Big Time Politics in the story, and That Guy will simply not fit. Also, the D candidate will be fictional.

I knew from the beginning that PE would involve a significant diversion from the real world timeline, simply because of the story's nature. I mean, I'm not doing political/current events satire anymore and I'm no longer in Bloom County's thrall. I mean, now that I'm doing it... it's a relief.

The biggest mention in the story of That Guy's shuffling off the mortal coil will be "The President is dead, and the Vice President will complete his term, while not running in 2020." Period. Any more reference to real-world crap would be a distraction. This way both candidates can be fictional.

Last post before I get to the writin'. I put a link to the Patreon on my BlueSky profile. So this is just a reminder that you can read the comic NINE MONTHS EARLY!! on Patreon for only $1/month, plus you can get extra bonus material if you pledge $5 a month or more. www.patreon.com/c/newshounds

Random story note. The Reverend's original six Chosen Souls were supposed to have character arcs of their own, but the story moved beyond them and now they're just backdrop characters. I mean, they're essentially in a cult, so it makes sense. Only Eugene, by breaking free, stood out in the end.

Ha ha! Yes I did. Yesterday. And without getting too spoilery, I changed a workplace setting from just a backdrop to the action... to DEFINING the action based on news stories about this kind of business.

#politics #verypolitics #very-opinionated-so-comments-are-turned-off I think Abdul El-Sayed is a great candidate but I'm worried that some Dems in Michigan may be dipshits and not vote for him. I really hope the general D pull of this election--and Rogers' suckiness--help to pull him over the line.

WHOOHOO!! Once the dam broke, the ideas flooded in. I was able to get rid of some dead story weight and pace everything BEAUTIFULLY. Based on this new outline, I'm looking forward to doing some real scripting tomorrow. :)

I really, really disliked this movie and it hasn't aged well at all. Only positive I'll give it is the pirate ship was quite cool, but it certainly wasn't worth sitting through the rest of the movie to witness. (SEE! Corey Feldman humiliate a Hispanic maid! Such a sheer delight!)

And seriously, last month I read an old interview with him where his advice and comments about learning to draw, write, pace, and compose scenes for a comic were very inspiring. Like, "Yes, it's hard work, but the results are worth it. Keep it up!" And now this.

Every time I hear something like this about anyone, I feel strongly about doing everything myself. I don't even let reality of others being better at cityscapes and anatomy than I am bother me. At least I'm doing it myself. Everything you see came with my unseen but very real perspiration.

Okay, I promised I wouldn't draw distracting things, but I can at least announce I've finally made a breakthrough, so I'm excited. Also, in all the web research I did on Goober here, not one reference mentioned that catchphrase of his, and geez, if there's anything I remember, it's THAT.

Apart from taking our car in for a brake job tomorrow, I am spending this weekend WRITING. Usually, when I do, I take breaks to draw goofy stuff for BlueSky as a release... but I don't even want to do that because I'm desperate to get a workable script and outline DOWN.

More vegetarian options in restaurants and supermarkets. Far, far less public smoking and a de-emphasis on cigarette culture. And, from what I have heard: bullying is FAR LESS tolerated in schools!!

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Last night Tim and I watched the "Space: 1999" episode "Matter of Life and Death," and... oof. SO bad. To call it "written" would be a stretch. Plus the whole vibe of the show is so boring... unlikable characters, slow, talky pacing... I see why this never had similar cultural relevance as "Trek."

I'm going to watch the rest of the season... it's MSTable stuff, especially with the awful science... but yeah, in so many ways, this show does about EVERYTHING wrong. If it weren't for an occasional thoughtful show and some good guest star acting, it'd be intolerable.

Argh. I was going to name a new canine character "Marshall" after the dog in "The Bonfire of the Vanities" but autocorrect, in suggesting how to finish the word, reminded me it's too close to "Marcel." God, I hate coming up with character names.

A small thing: Perspective doesn't just apply to backgrounds. It also applies to figure work, although in that case it's called foreshortening. A big thing: Professional artists are not gods, just ordinary people who took the time to learn.

I'm going to be teaching young teenagers how to draw manga style and I am curious: What were things you wish you knew growing up as an artist?

It's still one of my favorite pages ever. Titus, in the end, was a villain, but he was a tragic villain. He had no idea of nor cared about the unknown depths of the world he inhabited.

I deleted my original post asking for advice, but I liked this response so much I'm quote posting it. Thanks. :)

Ugh. It depends. Being in the midwest, rust is a thing. Car was still running great after 200k miles, but the entire bottom was rusting out. I literally drove it until my mechanic told me he wouldn't work on it further and to put my money toward a new car. (I miss my good mechanic.)

OK, replacing it, if that's even necessary, is considerably cheaper than buying a new used car in this economy. I love the fact that one place is selling a car with 250K miles on it for five grand. Screw that. This car's fine. I'm doing okay and I'm calm. :)

P0421, Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). I've been told to try to replace the O2 sensor first, because it's cheaper and would probably have to be replaced anyway. If that's not it...whoof, am I fucked. At least for now it's an emissions problem and I don't have that commute.

Fabulous. In the ten plus years I've had this car, the Check Engine Light went on for the very first time. Grumble grumble. And I just HAD an oil change last week. O'Reilly Auto Parts says they read the code for free, so here I go.
