A thread on Juneteenth. Growing up in Arkansas in the 60s and 70s, I never heard a single word about it (although I'm sure that my black classmates had). I knew plenty of Civil War history, as one tended to, but I had no idea there was a specific day around Emancipation reaching Texas. (1/10)
