And for what it's worth, I am always open to questions from other consultants from would-be and newbie consultants, to helping those who had the same feeling I did all those years ago when I first started, watching others do the job I wanted and not knowing how I could get there.

I am so happy to work at a place that doesn't just think about issues, but seeks to solve them or find out why, not just on our own, but with other organisations 😻 I am sure there are folks following or mutuals on here who would be perfect for this - please share too! #GameAccessibility

Just a reminder to all the indie devs: You can just post a link to your game when you mention it. In fact, attaching a link and thumbnail beneath doesn't even add to the character count. This isn't Twitter. You won't be suffocated in your sleep by the algorithm here. There is no algorithm here.

If a menu in a game can be navigated with the dpad, it should ideally in most cases also be able to be navigated with a thumb stick (and vice versa) #Gamedev #UX

My retired 67 y/o mother-in-law got into PC gaming in the last couple of years, starting with Skyrim and then The Witcher 3. She has been regaling us with her more recent violent and exciting adventures in Fallout 4. I'm so proud 🥰

She particularly enjoys SMG weapons in the game and she even uses the console to turn god mode on "because I get scared of the raiders"

and you better believe I am going to try and sell @thewobblygamer.bsky.social for cold hard cash.

Friends, sloppers can already analyze images to see what's in them. They aren't relying on image descriptions or alt text. Doing this is not just deliberately cruel to disabled folk, but a complete waste of time and makes you, rightfully, appear completely uninformed on both ai and accessibility.

Accessibility Awareness@a11yawareness.bsky.social

Some are suggesting you deliberately write inaccurate or confusing alt text, because they say this confuses AI scrapers that are analyzing images. The purpose of alt text is to help people who cannot see the image. Deliberately misrepresenting the image is a gross misuse of alt text. Don't do it.

For players with low or no vision, narration can be essential. Not just for dialogue, but especially to make menus and UI understandable and navigable. Without it, many games aren't just unplayable, but impossible to even start. Making games' text accessible allows many more players to enjoy them.

It's World Sight Day today, what better day to call attention to the readability of text in games — one of the most mentioned accessibility barriers for gaming on any screen size. Text is more accessible with large default sizes, clear sans-serif fonts, and colors that contrast with the background.

A few weeks ago, a couple of Nintendo Switch Reddit communities rallied around a player who said "I'm dying" of ALS, and said the Ocarina of Time remake would be the first game he actually finishes. I spoke to him about his situation and what games mean to him: www.gamesradar.com/games/the-le...

nothing has ever been something more laser targeted on making me fucking S O B: the devs of dressmaker made the game because one of the partners has EDS and can no longer sew like she used to www.engadget.com/2264203/enga...

Having an editorial team of only cis-men in 2026 is a management failure, and we should treat it as such. There's no shortage of highly skilled, overqualified, funny, smart, and direct women, femme, trans, and non-binary people TRYING to work in games media. We just don't get to most of the time.

the idea of games with a single difficulty level is so weird. it just doesn't make sense. how are devs supposed to magically target you, perfectly, sight unseen? people have all kinds of individual strengths and habits and weaknesses and accessibility needs? that's just not how it works.

My left ear still hasn't recovered after last year's bout in both ears. Thankfully it's just the right ear so far this time.

A note for accessibility advocates and consultants - there are ways to professionally engage with accessibility "discourse" and none of them are replying to ragebait bots and trolls. You cannot change their mind, they have no mind to change.

Your career and reputation are affected negatively, and even permanently if your social media footprint is dominated by having arguments with rando accounts.

IMO Patching something based on social media furore rather than actual player feedback is a mistake. None of those people fighting and abusing others on social media about the problem have played the game, and are never going to. Yes this is a Wolverine post.

Alienating the people who do own the game and have had great experiences with it in favour of placating a bunch of bot accounts and ragebait trolls is a bad look.

Made this tonight. Feel like a sorcerer because I made two pizzas, potato squares and melon soda out of powder and water.

It tasted like pizza, and a part of me is deeply disturbed by the revelation I had making it cause I expected it to be this.
