In case you missed it, here's my opinion piece for The Hockey News on Alexander Ovechkin, his latest ill-advised foray into politics, and the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. This got a ton of reaction yesterday, and this is not going away. thehockeynews.com/news/latest-...

My latest, for The Hockey News. There's lots of heroes in the hockey world, but Alexander Ovechkin isn't one of them. In fact, his latest endorsement of Putin and his horrendous war assures Ovechkin's legacy will be forever tainted. thehockeynews.com/news/latest-...

My heart. People can be so wonderful.

A quarterback took a Down syndrome girl to prom... and showed the world what real manhood looks like. He could’ve chosen anyone, but he chose the girl who believed in him before popularity ever did. And that choice meant everything. Original post

Look at this incredible creature. This is another reason why Massimo's account is so essential.

Patrick is a 34-year-old orangutan at the Metro Richmond Zoo who recently gained internet fame after a video of him tying a double knot went viral. Original post

Devastating news about Claude Lemieux. I had the chance to know him as a player and an agent, and he was always a gentleman. You wanted him to be on your team, and that's one of the biggest compliments you can give a player and a person. Rest in peace, Claude.

The people who help animals like this are my heroes. Any time you can do incredible work that gives back so wonderfully, you should get your props for it.

If I saw this on the beach 🏖️ I’d probably get teary eyed. The scooter club is vibing. Thank you for all the people who help these dogs live their best life.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Jim "Boomer" Gordon. We were co-hosts of "The Hockey News Radio Show" for a while there, and Boomer always met me with a smile and a laugh every time we were in the Sirius/XM studio together. Fifty-five is way too young. R.I.P., buddy.

So sad. A Grade-A+ artist, and someone who always made you proud to be Canadian. R.I.P..

Breaking News: Catherine O’Hara, the comedian best known for her roles in “Home Alone,” “Schitt’s Creek” and “Beetlejuice,” has died at 71.

You can look at literally every player on this Toronto roster and point to at least one moment the Blue Jays almost certainly would've been eliminated without a huge, difference-making hit from them. Hard to think of a team that embodies the team ideal more than this Jays team.

George Springer is BACK IN THE LINEUP, leading off for the Toronto Blue Jays. Bo Bichette goes back to his brand new MLB position of second base as Davis Schneider comes out of the lineup. Kevin Gausman on the mound in just a few hours.

These dogs were spotted taking a group photo in their Halloween costumes. We're impressed by the dog walker's dedication to getting the shot, but that ghost definitely wishes he could actually disappear. 14/10 for all (TT: franklinbarkzoo)

Saw my first urban Toronto wild rabbit since I've been home. This thing eyed me like the start of "Us", kept eye contact the entire time, and didn't move backward or flinch a muscle. My 11-pound Shih Tzu dog looked at it like, "No thanks, friendo" and promptly hauled ass in the other direction.

R.I.P., Robert Redford. All-time great actor, philanthropist and activist. Very hard to pick my favorite film of his, but "Sneakers" was letter-perfect. Redford, Ben Kingsley, Sidney Poitier, River Phoenix, Mary McDonnell and David Strathairn. First-rate picture, first-rate person. He'll be missed.

We interrupt this Bluesky feed to inform you -- the umpire in the Blue Jays/Orioles game is comically inept. Both teams are already incensed with the guy, and it's the second inning. Bring on the robot umps.

If Ron is in your area, you'd be amiss to miss him. Singular artist, stand-up guy, poet's soul. For serious -- go see him.

"Nobody's Fool" was one of Newman's last classics. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Bonus Ghost content for today's launch: I stopped by @kphipps3000.bsky.social & @scotttobias.bsky.social's The Reveal to write about one of my favorite comfort food movies, Paul Newman's absurdly charming 1994 comedy Nobody's Fool. thereveal.film/weekend-watc...

Brendan Shanahan's time running the Maple Leafs is over. He did many good things in his time in Toronto, but it was time for a change. And there's a very solid foundation for his successor to build on. Shanahan will land on his feet in another market, and the Leafs will try again with someone else.
