Who will call for a big fight, and big change? The Old Ways of Congress are gone. A New Congress is needed.

Please follow Marisa. Also when the video w @markjacob.bsky.social came out many of us said that Healy was far too overconfident. In fact a lot of the public is pissed at bad NYT coverage but didn’t know who to blame. Now the public knows who to blame. That’s what’s happening here 👇

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

Pat Healy is now the face of bad NYT Politics coverage, after that video he made. Good. What we are seeing here is sunlight. Healy’s arguments make sense inside a NYT newsroom where he’s a top boss and people have to defer to him. But his arguments can’t stand the light of public attention.

We are at the beginning of the end of bad 'basket-of-polls' politics, where politicians don't do anything without a poll. See this exchange. The public is now seeing what's really driving this so-called popularism approach: people who want to stop change and protect the status quo.

Finally, we are seeing focus on the bad arguments people like Yglesias are using to reinforce the status quo that wealthy donors like. @mehdirhasan.bsky.social asked good questions and Yglesias answered directly.

thanks if you were one of the people talking about this. And thanks to the journalists who picked it up and wrote about it, some of them for years.

We have gone from a small group of people talking about the failure of basket-of-polls status quo politics—starting on Twitter back around 2018; a year or two before the E Levitz 2020 piece—to, now, widespread discussion. So it's broken containment.

I watch this Yglesias interview and I’m left with the impression that the game is up. everyone who is open to persuasion now knows that basket-of-polls politics is dead

The party PACs are still doing weak bipartisan, ”both parties are the same,” ads. But my guess — or my hope — is that this will be the last cycle. The jig is up.

And this core error has hurt America terribly. As Stancil discussed at length, Pelosi didn‘t act to impeach quickly after Jan 6 because the polls told her to do nothing, to wait, to sit on the status quo. What a lost opportunity.

Many campaign consultants are good people trying to do the right thing. But the incentive structure sucks because of this 👇
