I’ve revived my Apple II Agent project from January: An Apple IIe with an Ethernet card and a custom client It links up to Claude through a proxy on my Mac and allows conversational Apple II software creation similar to Claude Code When it’s done, it loads the new program into memory

Vucic has announced defeat

Michael Colborne@colborne.bsky.social

We’ll see what transpires but one thing important to note: in Belgrade, in front of the electoral commission, and around parliament, broadcaster RTS and other places nearby in the centre, a significant police presence has been put in place - along with a suspiciously large number of masked hooligans

a lot of people don't realize 99 Ranch was invented as recently as 1984

I will say though: the 99 still works

a universal and "highly convergent" belief is "i should have all the toys". we don't take this convergence as proof we should build our lives or society around it. this is toddler logic.

What I don't understand from this story is, how come the people funding the audit (apparently @ostifofficial.bsky.social?) didn't have some provision for public disclosure. The collective outcome appears to have been 'they found the problem and then sat on it for two years'.

That's worse than the bug - the real work of the audit got turned into deception. The audit is supposed to give you some idea of the security posture of the project but ends up deliberately misrepresenting it

I'm fond of 'comparison to Heartbleed' as analysis tool, subjective as it is and to me, these come out quite different. A CA going bad is a fully anticipated failure mode of the system and disruptive as it is, we usually find out fairly quickly how it happened Heartbleed is more like

'the most well-resourced, security-sophisticated organizations in the world were (to a first approximation) just make-installing openssl on all their public endpoints'. I don't think that was particularly anticipated and maybe I missed them but there was never much of a public explanation

Google has an internal tool called fileutil. It's used quite commonly, so it took me about two weeks at the company to want to have an alias for it, so I added one. One day, my – back then – Australian manager looks over my shoulder and sees me type in "fu …" and laughs, saying "excellent […]

dude got so rich from inventing the scanline they gave him a monocle as was the custom at the time

Joshua Bloch@joshbloch.bsky.social

On a recent trip to Boston, I snapped this picture of a bust of Arthur Fiedler apparently wearing a monocle in his right eye. Except that it isn't! That "monocle" is a piece of exercise equipment behind the trees and across the path. It's an accidental "forced perspective" illusion.

it's because they believe the change is going to be discontinuous, it's the rapture for nerds it's very difficult to stay grounded in how dumb (beside boringly predictable) this is - it's everywhere, plus how can seemingly intelligent people capable of making a magical tech be this dumb, etc

You would think that if these AI "visionaries" truly believed that AI was going to create some kind of amazing utopia and be absolutely essential for human future and yadda yadda yadda that they would be much more careful about both public opinion and the accident potential.
