There’s no merger with Dominion that’s good for ratepayers long-term. Even the $10/month credit for four years NextEra & Dominion are floating doesn’t end well: “SCC staff say when the credits expire, Dominion’s Virginia ratepayers will see a sharp jump in bills outpacing inflation.” No deal.

Over the seven months NextEra Energy and Dominion Energy talked about merging, without mentioning it to any ratepayers, word the Richmond energy giant might be on the market slipped out far enough to attract another bidder.

A $67 billion merger to create the world’s largest electric utility monopoly is about corporate greed. Dominion on its own is problematic enough. They’re suing Prince William County for not getting their way on supersizing a substation to power data centers despite so many residents opposing it.

Susan's dedicated almost the entirety of her adult life to serving the Senate of Virginia, which means she's spent more than 50 years helping senators serve their constituents. She's left the Virginia General Assembly as a whole better than she found it, especially for women. Best wishes to her.

Shareholders win. Ratepayers lose. “In effect, the merger means NextEra’s role as a competitive supplier of power in PJM’s wholesale market would end, giving it & Dominion more control over power supplies in already tight #Virginia. That would clear the way for higher prices here, the monitor said.“

The internal watchdog of the PJM regional electric grid says federal regulators should reject NextEra Energy’s proposed takeover of Dominion Energy.

Today in the City of Manassas Park, I stopped by the Blooms Crossing Day festival at Blooms Park, where I caught up with Mayor Alanna Mensing and former school board member Debbie McIntyre. Later, I had dinner in the city at Preston’s Pub, where my constituent Cindy left me a kind note. #Virginia

No state in the union does #NoKings quite like #Virginia, where it’s the seal and flag of the commonwealth. Great to see @repsuhas.bsky.social and a bunch of our constituents from Haymarket, Gainesville and Bristow (and neighbors from beyond) here in Haymarket. Sunday early voting begins tomorrow!

This is what demand for change looks like. This is what it looks like when people are fed up with the current administration and are fired up to vote for new leadership. To our volunteers across the district, keep up the good work – T-17 days.

#VA05: Voters in Appomattox County (strong R) and the City of Danville (strong D) have already cast more early ballots than the entire early voting period in 2022. There are still 2 more weeks of early voting to go (plus mail ballots that trickle in too). Sunday voting in #Virginia starts tomorrow!

1) Dominion still has a demand-side problem from the data centers. 2) They're making excuses in 2026 for why they can't meet the 2045 VCEA requirements. A multi-trillion-dollar data center industry profiting from a multi-billion-dollar utility profiting in turn puts us last and shareholders first.

Pressed by the soaring cost of buying electricity from others, Dominion Energy sees its path forward needing a 21% increase in solar facilities and a 76% increase in battery storage from the additions proposed in last year’s update.

One small joy: there are many reaction videos from professional singers whose eyebrows hit the ceiling when she belts the high note of “Ghost Love Score.“ (As my keyboard teacher told me, “It’s not a G#. It’s an A-flat.“ Ha.) Also: Yannis from Beast in Black covers it in key. Worth the watch.

My campaign's first TV ads for the House of Delegates in 2017 and Senate in 2023 went after data centers. Now here we are, years later and it's wild to see candidates trip over themselves to get to where we were in 2017. Some of us fought before it was cool. (1/3) stateline.org/2026/10/12/d...

The Virginia General Assembly dedicated 1/3 of our budget to health care this year b/c of the HR 1 cuts. We also had to put aside nine digits to deal with the fallout from SNAP cuts. The next Congress needs a Day 1 reconciliation package to help states, localities and food banks. No waiting around.

I just spoke about the local impact of this on Prince William County food banks tonight. Awful. -- "More than 100,000 Virginians have lost their SNAP benefits in the last year. ... Can food banks be a substitution for SNAP? I'd have to tell you, absolutely not. They're meant to work in conjunction."

“I don’t like X, Y or Z candidates / I don’t like either party. Why should I bother to vote?” Because we have constitutional amendment referendum questions on reproductive rights, marriage equality and voting rights. Those are Yes or No questions on civil rights. We either protect them or we don’t.

Today marks 28 years since Matthew Shepard died, beaten to death for daring to be out in 1998. In 2021, his mother Judy testified for my bill to ban the anti-LGBTQ panic defense here in Virginia so people kill or assault us for simply existing. I’m grateful for her work and the advocates who helped.

I carried that bill because a Manassas Park HS student constituent asked me. I realized in that moment that student was living with the same fear then that I did when I was a HS freshman in 1998 when Matthew died and a college freshman in 2002 when Gwen Araujo died. Their memory lives on. #NoH8

This alone should be disqualifying for the merger. We’ve had 120 years to learn from TR’s fight against the railroad monopolies. Reminder: for the fourth year in a row in 2027, I’ll be introducing the budget amendment to end the data center sales tax exemption, which the Senate of Virginia adopted earlier this year though we couldn’t get it through conference. We need a moratorium on data centers, not tax giveaways to them.

The debate over Virginia’s $1.9 billion sales tax exemption for data centers will likely continue, Gov. Abigail Spanberger told the several hundred people gathered for the Virginia Clean Energy Summit.

Think data center noise is exaggerated? Turn up the volume. I went to hear it for myself. That’s a data center behind me during this interview. In the middle of the day. Beside a playground. People aren’t asking for too much. They’re asking for some peace in their own neighborhoods.

Just to be clear: the City of Manassas Park has for a while now been running its own monthly outdoor event that’s *completely separate* from the First Friday event in the City of Manassas. (The October 2 First Friday is canceled.) The Manassas Park one is along Manassas Drive, not in Old Town.
