'Quakerism absorbed?... No!... There is room yet for the teaching of the Inward Light, for the witness of a living God, for the reinterpretation of the Christ in lives that shall convict the careless, [&] language that shall convince the doubting' (John Wilhelm Rowntree).

📣 New Video! Today, we're exploring one of my favourite Quaker episodes in history, the meeting of Sultan Mehmed IV with Mary Fisher, a Quaker from Selby in Yorkshire. How on earth did this situation come about? What did they talk about? Let's find out! #quakerism youtu.be/AOHqcLOmzOQ

I really don’t get why people hate on Radio 3 Unwind. I literally love it all, it’s well thought through, provides a structure and playlists people want with a nice mixture of genres, hosts and natural sounds. A lot of love.

‘He [Eärendil] walked in the deserted ways of Tirion, and the dust upon his raiment and his shoes was a dust of diamonds, and he shone and glistened as he climbed the long white stairs.’ (Tolkien, The Silmarillion, p.248)

My most #yorkshire feeling ever: Upon beholding Notre Dame de Paris for the first time… “Yeah, but the York Minster is just better!” I still believe it. Happy Yorkshire Day to all who celebrate!

'Today Christ is born in me, in each of his people, and in us all together. The star never leaves the sky, the song of the angels is never stilled, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men"; shepherds and wise men never cease to adore' (Paul Thompson) #QuakerWisdom

Margaret Cotton's The Radiance of Grace is a compelling and deeply researched historical novel that focuses on the struggles and tribulations of three women in Puritan Massachusetts—the Quaker martyr Mary Dyer and her spiritual mentors, Anne Hutchinson and Katherine Scott.

Every now and then, I fear I will run out of video ideas for Quake It Up…then I remember, I always have the gem of when Voltaire met the Quakers… Got Lettres sur les anglais BEGGING to be read. FOUR letters he gives to Quakers. FOUR… Anglicanism only gets one.

This is still one of my favourite Quaker encounters… though Peter the Great chatting theology with William Penn in Dutch might just beat it for its sheer unlikelihood…

1/3 Here @quakeitup.bsky.social makes a really good pitch for the internal coherence of Liberal Quaker theology (including it's ability to include interpretations which, in theory, negate it). My initial thought is that diversity isn't the problem with Liberal-Liberal Quakerism in particular...

I’m going to be doing a video where I go to all EIGHT Cornish Quaker meetings in ONE day. Easy, you say? Mate, have you ever been to Cornwall? I’ll be doing it in the summer as well, so…
