Once again, fascists are appropriating history to advance their cause. This time, the French party Rassemblement National (National Rally - formerly known as National Front) is using Joan of Arc… They’re having a meeting (congress) in Orléans for the party to elect a leader. And this is the ad.

We did a whole episode about how fascists and racists appropriate history, please do listen to that for more context! We talk about how French fascists love the crusades and Joan of Arc for instance, and how this kind of thing happens in Westeros too. www.podbean.com/ew/pb-66kfa-...

Speaking of episodes: we’ve been a bit delayed in making episodes due to real life events. Such as current political events. But we will be trying to get at least a short episode to you soonish!

Please note that the ad says “The youth write the history”. Right as thousands of youths across France is protesting for better education. But somehow RN don’t care about those youths…

And how soldiers of older times had much more colourful uniforms than they do today! 🌈

Since we also talk a fair bit about the character Sweets, Lo wanted to share this amazing artwork of Sweets that @sanrixian.bsky.social made for them a while back! 💜

We discuss several historical people (and groups) that might be considered trans or gender nonconforming today, from medieval England and Germany to the early modern Ottoman Empire.
