Walking around Queen's Park in #glasgow and seeing some of the damage from Storm Boelo. Very windy but still a nice day for a walk.

I've been working a lot on nitrile to aldehyde conversion reactions, which has allowed me to do some pretty vanadium chemistry for the first time #vanadium #chemistry #chemsky #nitrile #aldehyde

7 Wonders is my favourite board game, but it needs a lot of people to function properly. Or, two people can play three factions each! #boardgames #boardgaming

See you all on the far side because I'm about to tackle this behemoth by Adrian Tchaikovsky ( @aptshadow.bsky.social ). Thanks to the local libraries in #glasgow for getting it so quickly #booksky #scifi

Just finished Shroud by Adrian Tchaikovsky (@aptshadow.bsky.social ) and it was a blast! There wasn't a single wasted word or sentence. Every sentence had a purpose, no filler - I was hanging onto every word. Looking forward to starting Alien Clay ! #booksky #scififantasy #books

Today is Earth Day 🌍 A reminder that our everyday choices really do add up. 92 million tonnes of textile waste goes to landfill in the UK every year. Around 30kg per household in Sheffield alone. It is not about being perfect. It is about making things last longer. Repair. Reuse. Rethink.

Went out because it was sunny. Randomly started snowing. Now it's sunny again. #glasgow #snow

Just finished Spiderlight by @aptshadow.bsky.social and it felt like a tongue-in-cheek summary of the fantasy genre. Great read 😀 #booksky

Had a great time at The Merchant's Guild in #glasgow replaying Splendor and trying out a new board game Wispwood. Hoping they add some others like Wingspan, Everdell and Root to their catalogue 😀 #boardgames

Managed to hit my 50 book target for this year just in the nick of time. Thanks to #StoryGraph for being a useful tracking tool #booksky

I went to a pop-up city on an island off the coast of Honduras, which bills itself as a hub for fast-tracking longevity drugs. I wrote about what I found there for @newrepublic.com: newrepublic.com/article/2011...

The first of my PhD work has been published in @daltontrans.rsc.org, work done in the Barnard group at @limsltu.bsky.social @latrobeuni.bsky.social on using boronic acids as receptors for sugars (i.e. glucose) while using iridium(III) as a signalling unit. #chemsky #organometallic

The biggest column I've ever done (column volume of ~1L) to separate three, very close spots. Took half a day but was fully clean! #chemsky #purification #chromatography

My StoryGraph tells me I am devouring these books, one per week. The Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio reminds me a lot of Dune and The Expanse #booksky #scifi

I just finished the Children of Time trilogy by Adrian Tchaikovsky (@aptshadow.bsky.social) and was absolutely engrossed. The writing was very easy to follow, the ideas were stunning in scope and the characters very fun. Definitely going to try some of his other books #booksky #scifi

Cat sitting 7 Persian cats this weekend 😼 #catsky

Managed 16,000 steps today walking across the chemistry department 5 times to get ice for this 5 gram Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction #chemsky #chemistry #organicchemistry

Finally finished the main Dune series by Frank Herbert. What a rollercoaster ride of a series. Looking forward to what the next screen adaption will achieve #booksky #Dune
