At the Australian National Botanic Gardens today - Spring blooms, a happy Red Wattlebird, and Australian Water Dragon #birds #wildlife

Mum Brushtail Possum eating carrot on a plate in a potted lemon tree on our balcony. Junior is hanging on precariously whilst upside down! Not a great shot but I needed something to cheer me up. #birds #wildlife

Birdlife Australia has just announced that local transmission of H5 Birdflu has occurred in Australian Greater Crested Terns on the South Australian coast. It feels like waiting for the apocalypse. #birds #wildlife

The H5N1 virus has finally been confirmed in five cases of migratory seabirds in Western, Southern and Eastern Australia. I can’t begin to imagine what I’d do if it reaches the beautiful birds I share my environment with. #birds #wildlife

I’m rather chuffed, I saw three beautiful Spotted Pardalotes at my birdbath this morning. Previously my record was two. Little jewels. #birds #wildlife

Someone (not us!) quite frequently gives our Australian Raven a slice of white bread which it then soaks in our birdbath.😐 There’s a Currawong chick in the eucalypt above which wouldn’t mind sharing. It’s out of luck. #birds #wildlife

Yesterday evening a young Koel chick discovered our frog pond on the balcony. I’ve seen it being fed by a harassed Red Wattlebird. #birds #wildlife

The seed bowl is empty. They’ve noticed! Apologies for the reflection, this is through the lounge room window and they know I’m watching. #birds #wildlife

The first Galah chicks for 2025 are being introduced to us. The Sulphur Cresteds are ignoring them and hoping they’ll go away! (As does their parent!). Sound on #birds # wildlife

Windy day in our garden yesterday, strong Westerlies. Could be a very long fire season. The two eucalypts in the foreground I planted in 1998. Hopefully helps make up for the block next door which is mainly concrete and weeds. No wonder our wildlife and birds are in trouble. #birds #wildlife

One of our parent Magpies looking like a train wreck but actually having a dust bath. The chick had been parked in the shade under a camellia just out of frame on the right but emerged to complain about lack of service! #birds #wildlife
