It turns out this is just another step in a long long history of NYC's efforts to make governing transparent. For over 150 years they've published a daily newspaper called The City Record that gives a detailed view of what the city's many departments are doing.

Hi, I'm @mek.fyi and for 9 years I've run the @openlibrary.org at @archive.org, where 11M patrons world-wide rely on us to preserve society's library books, many which can't be accessed elsewhere. 🎲 Markets, politics, employment could change: I pledge to keep Aaron Swartz's Open Library OPEN 📖. Why?

A recent paper about NYC says upzoning reshuffles gentrification: some neighborhoods feel relief, others feel the heat. As such, a regional approach should be taken. Source: Upzoning and gentrification: Heterogeneous impacts of neighbourhood-level upzoning in New York City (2024).

In December, I joined the celebration of 50 years of Ciclovía in Bogotá, Colombia. Three astonishing aspects caught my attention: 1. At the night Ciclovía, police were present with a music car encouraging people to register their bikes in case they're stolen. Quite the friendly community outreach.

LETS TRY THIS: Quote-post this with a “picture worth a 1000 words” of a scene from another city that exemplifies what you’d like YOUR city to achieve on the way to becoming a much better #CityForPeople. The only word you get to include is the name of the city the scene is from.
