Three books so far! Latest, from last year, is Pledging My Time: Conversations with Bob Dylan Band Members. Previous two are about cover songs. Cover Me: The Stories Behind the Greatest Covers of All Time and a 33 1/3 on Leonard Cohen and the history of tribute albums called I'm Your Fan.

After the two familiar openers, we got a great version of Crash on the Levee. ERK was also (surprisingly) good. Truly special performance of Tangled. Dublin Blues was abruptly initiated by Bob while the band played the intro to UTRS. Surprising encore with You Ain’t Going Nowhere.

Bob Dylan just completed the first show of his fall tour. Early reports are first Tangled Up in Blue in eight years! First Crash on the Levee in 31 years!!! Plus his first ever covers of Randy Newman’s Louisiana and Guy Clark’s Dublin Blues.

One of my favorite live videos ever comes from this show. The fact that it was filmed on some crappy flip phone perfectly fits the ambiance. When the drums eventually kick in and the volume totally blows out the microphone - magic.

NYC’s CBGB closed 20 years ago today. The Patti Smith Group performed — joined by special guests Richard Lloyd of Television and Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers — and Talking Heads’ Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, the E Street Band’s Steven Van Zandt, and Jesse Malin also attended.

I wrote the cover story for the new issue of MOJO about Rolling Thunder 1976! I listened to the full box set (yes, all 39 discs) and interviewed a bunch of participants. Bob Dylan and more in the new MOJO! As Bob Dylan nears UK shores once more, MOJO digs into some of Dylan’s ground-breaking tours: Judas!, Rolling Thunder, Rough And Rowdy Ways and beyond. Plus there’s an exclusive ’76 live track on this month’s covermount CD. More info and to order a copy here 👇

Dylan tour kicks off in a couple weeks. Here's a list of songs he last performed in 2019. Which feels like a nice sweet spot for possible surprises—exciting, but still entirely plausible.* (* Will The Circle excepted, that was a one-off with Neil Young)
