Stateside during the years leading up to World War II and during that war, stupid American Nazi factions stupidly carried out attacks against Jewish mobsters. And got their stupid Nazi asses kicked across the board. This is their story. Now reading …
With possibly the most important elections in my lifetime coming up, I’m listening to something politically timely and musically superb. Gil Scott-Heron all the way. #gilscottheron
I’ve been absent for a few days, and will be at low ebb on Bluesky for a little while yet. After a very rough weekend, we had to put our beloved 17-year-old mini-dachshund Rock to sleep last night. Here are a few recent photos of him. He was a rescue shelter, and we had 6 wonderful years with him.💔❤️
What are you reading for Banned Books Week 2026? In honor of the late Marjane Satrapi, who died this last June at age 56, I’m revisiting her magnum opus Persepolis. According to Banned-Books.org, it has been banned in the U.S. and Iran, among other countries. I’ve been a fan since it first came out.
Tonight’s hanging/doing shit/existing accompaniment is Gil Scott-Heron - Pieces of a Man (1971).
Today’s driving-to-Madison-to-run-errands playlist is brought to you by the letters D, O, K, E, and N.
BANNED BOOKS WEEK 2026 is only 1 week away — October4-10! What are you reading? Fight censorship. Fight for your right to read what you want to read, what you have a right to read. #bannedbooksweek #americanlibraryassociation

If you like dark synth and densely atmospheric modern horror, I give my highest possible recommendation to Come True (2020). I regularly spin the soundtrack/score for background music. Pilotpriest, the composer, is a moniker used by the film’s writer-director. Here’s a taste.
I maintain the argument that this might be the best song ever written in my lifetime.

It’s impossible to not feel good after listening to this song. Do you remember? 💙

The Return of the Living Dead (1985) is where Linnea Quigley kicked in the crypt doors and announced her reign as B-movie queen of the next decade. Sure, the tombstone dance. But that’s just one piece of the puzzle. Her delivery of Trash’s highly quotable dialogue is memorable and steals the show. 🖤
The female guitarist rock duo Finom opened for Mannequin Pussy on Thursday night in Madison, and they were phenomenal. On top of that, one of them was 9 months pregnant and still kicked ass with the showmanship chops throughout their set. I picked up one of their albums, as well. #finom #thesylvee
Tonight, I’ll be at the Mannequin Pussy concert at The Sylvee in Madison, Wis.! Never seen them before, can’t wait! #mannequinpussy
Offering such incentives is obviously unethical and I would assume illegal. So, just another day.
I’m in the mood for some Talking Heads …
Now reading My Bad: A Personal History of the Queer Nineties and Beyond by Hugh Ryan. I don’t read many memoirs, but this one sounds particularly fascinating.
