The Australian newspaper has been claiming a "forensic audit report" shows BoM's temperature data has "widespread error". For 15 years climate sceptics have been claiming a conspiracy around the data. Is anything different this time?

Latest Temperature Check column on the reaction to the landmark climate decision in the high court. Not so much “net zero on steroids” as an attempt to cut the steroids driving the planet’s climate to ever deadlier extremes.

🌊 Antarctic winter sea ice at 3rd-lowest level on record. “How sensitive is the global climate system to this loss of sea ice? We're still working to put numbers on that. A month of broken records for temperatures around Australia. Hottest September ever for minimums across the continent, scores of places setting records for warmest September. A snow depth gauge in the NSW alps fell to zero - a first for any September since it was deployed in 1954.

Busy few days… more news from me. “ It will go down in history as an infamous betrayal of the public trust.”
News from me: Antarctica’s winter sea ice has peaked at its third-lowest level on record, falling a million square kilometres – or almost 400,000 square miles – short of the long-term average, scientists have confirmed. "This is not a future problem. It’s a now problem.”
What’s more informative? That a fossil fuel project will emit 809 million tonnes of CO2? Or that it will cause almost half a million people to be exposed to unprecedented heat? A new tool tells that story, and fossil fuel corporations are unlikely to like it. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

From me. Almost 400 native Australian bird and mammal species have been assessed as being at a high risk – or worse – from the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus, a federal government assessment has revealed.
Fresh from interviewing far-right British anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson, Karl Stefanovic welcomed Coalition leaders Angus Taylor and Matt Canavan for a "debate" about net zero. I watched it. Beware claims of renewables covering "two Tasmanias" of land.

We have seen a rapid escalation of H5N1 bird flue cases in Australia in recent days, and now we have (probably) the first of what will likely be many, many mass mortality events in wildlife. Story from me.
Some crazy record July temperatures in Australia's alpine region this weekend (where it is winter, for northern hemisphere followers). Mount Hotham's usual daily max temp is zero C, but it saw 12C at the weekend - 3.3C above it's previous hottest July day. More in this story from me.
Most of the corals on Australia's remote Norfolk Island are likely new species. But scientists are worried they are currently facing a triple threat of El Niño, disease and now a government-backed dredging project right next door. This exclusive from me.
