Just finished ‘The Philosophers’ Secret Fire: A History of the Imagination’ by Patrick Harpur. Exceptional. Read it. #folklore #myth #imagination #Philosophy #Neoplatonism #Jung #AnimaMundi #BookSky 📚

Turns out the findings from ‘Project Follow Through’ aren’t quite as clear cut as certain Edu-Influencers would have you believe Great blog #EducationalResearch #EduSky

Turns out that I have amassed a large number of #photographs of #Walls - the #BlueSkyArtShow theme for this week Here’s a section of an inscription on a #wall outside Martinskirche in #Sindelfingen #Germany It’s the Martinskirchen-Alphabet: "Ich bin die Schalen und ihr seid der Kern"

On the way back home from an #Autumn break in beautiful #Northumberland, decided to stop off at #Roker to visit the famous Arts & Crafts #Church, St Andrew — wow 🤩 Also spotted a pod of dolphins playing in the bay #Photography #Design #Seascape

The spin that is now needed from the AI overlords to prevent the bubble popping is getting ridiculous. Gen AI models are not alive. Gen AI models are not conscious. Gen AI models are not needed by humans to do our humanness for us, because they can’t.

I love this so much. Brilliant work!

Can you revive a zombie river? Our cities are full of rivers that have been buried in concrete after industrial pollution filled them with filth. But there's a global drive to bring them back: to "daylight" these forgotten rivers. I had a lovely day out in Sheffield today, seeing it actually happen.

An amazing place to visit. It is also very close to Byland Abbey, which has some beautiful medieval floor tiles still in situ, and is free to visit (parking is limited, so you might need to visit Rievaulx first and then circle back)

🧵Rievaulx Abbey, nestled in a secluded valley within the North York Moors, stands as one of England’s most powerful symbols of monastic architectural grandeur. Founded in 1131 by Cistercian monks, it quickly grew into one of the wealthiest and most influential monasteries in Europe,

What a terrible thing to defund. Sure, improve access, but don't end the youth parliament! #democracy - it would be a good idea: we need a world where everyone makes politics what they do, not have done to them @younggreens.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

bbc.co.ukUK Youth Parliament looks set to be axedSome say scrapping the parliament for 11 to 18-year-olds would be a blow for democracy, while others say it is overdue.

I can’t understand why the panic. Biology teachers are more than qualified and capable of teaching this *new subject. They may need some additional training and time to get used to the new specs but 🤷 *it isn’t really new

This is a real Z for Zachariah moment. Is #AI is the new nuclear threat to humanity? I want to know more about the how. It’s quite the claim. In our tech-connected and controlled world we are hugely vulnerable; however, some pockets of our spp would still remain. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

What role do social networks – and the precise nature and structure of social interactions – play in the production of public goods and in human welfare? What about social contagion? A thread on some of our #HNL experiments with many thousands of participants from 2010 to the present. 1/

Our education system is designed to sort people into groups. With this in mind, why then are the vocal middle classes so afraid of sorting young people into vocational and academic groups at age 14? It happens anyway (exam outcomes; poverty etc.) Investment in vocational pathways? Absolutely.

Air conditioning. Are you contemplating it? “The machines keeping the financially comfortable cool make everyone else's nights worse; and as wealthier households cool their rooms, the rest fall further behind. A thermal divide, opening street by street.” www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

bbc.co.ukHow the UK's extreme heat is shifting the conversation about air-conShould we embrace air conditioning despite its costs and consequences, and how much should we spend on adapting homes versus cutting carbon?

After 🌍’s next mass extinction event, I think it’s time for kingdom fungi to take centre stage. We can’t dig up the future just yet* but it would be equally fascinating to look forwards as well as back. *maybe quantum computers could help us with this (before our spp - as we are now - 👋s g’bye)
