Trying to install a firmware update on my car and at this point I wish I could use Web Serial because there's no universe in which a web-based tool could be any more dangerous or user-hostile than the bullshit I'm dealing with from GM.

Can't emphasise how much I feel these are exactly the sort of use cases and users the web was made for: "hobbyists, hackers, educators, makers and developers"! Not everything has to be about corporate bottom lines sometimes the web can just be for fun tinkering (but also lots of real world use too)!

This is the post I wish I could've written back on 2021. There are so many cool sites using this API now.

Web Serial shipping in Firefox means I can finally say I've written a real interoperable web standard.

Firefox 151 is out now, and brings with it some tasty new web platform features: πŸŽ‰ Container style() queries πŸŽ‰ Web Serial API πŸŽ‰ Document Picture-in-Picture API πŸŽ‰ keyboardLock on requestFullscreen …and more! developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/M...

I need someone to reconcile the Direct Sockets proposal in the Web Incubator Community Group with the Sockets API proposal from WinterTC before either gets so entrenched that we end up with two very similar and yet incompatible specifications for a TCP/UDP sockets API in JavaScript environments.

how do you all remember every UUID? I find it really hard. so I wrote them all down on every uuid dot com the list has fast search across all 2^122 values (so you can find your favorites) - hoping to add some social features like "trending UUIDs" soon!

Web developers should be forced to use their own sites while using an international roaming plan that gives you 256 kbps (or worse). Especially bus ticket site developers.

Ok let's see how bsky works for professional posting. While being named @buttplug.engineer. Anyone looking for Rust/C#/possibly C++/TS/JS/WASM/etc... developers at the staff/principle level? I'm starting to look around for new opportunities, curious what might be available out there.

I have transitions lenses (UV reactive lenses which darken in sunlight). Since I'm walking with the sun exactly to my left, my right lens is in shadow. That means that only the left lens is transitioning and so colors appear differently between my eyes. This is very weird.

As a phone nerd I am simultaneously excited by phone systems and scared of bothering people by actually using them.

It's really hard not to get mad over the wonderful coworkers I lost so that Google could offer shareholders $70 billion in stock buybacks.

I'm having one of those moments where I'm reading through the code for a system and discovering that how I thought it works is not at all how it actually works. At least I found a comment pointing to an issue tracking fixing things so that they work a lot more like how I thought they did.

You are up to date.
