Accept Emails for Not Built in a Day are out! Thanks to all #gamedev s who applied. Will do rejection emails Soon™ after sorting the rejections into the "honest feedback" and "you wasted my fucking time by applying to a fest you had no relevance to" buckets #indiedev #indiegame #steamfest #steam

Hey @itch.io would it be possible to exclude TableTop games from my normal browsing and search queries? It's wonderful that indie TTRPGs have found a thriving home on itch, but I came here for video games. (1/2)

And similarly, a person who came here for tabletop might be annoyed at all the PC/web games. Being able to optionally exclude these would allow us to curate our experience better. (2/2)

For International Translation Day I'm bringing... Some rando about to vibe-translate their way into a major political scandal! (what could go wrong) #internationaltranslationday #gataguressi #indiegame #conlang

Could all participants of #SAGExpo please kindly leave your #indiegame demos up and upload them to a persistent platform like @itch.io ?! Not everyone has time to play everything; and I'd appreciate perusing your passion projects at my own pace! #SAGE26

I disagree. Enforcing a little friction (scrolling a page) forces consumers to stay mindful of the presence of AI content. Enabling a single checkbox carries the implication that that checkbox is reliable; which it is not.

I wish I could get someone at Valve to give curators the ability to not accept AI generated games, just some little box I can tick that makes it so I can't be sent games with AI generated content, it would be an immediate and profound ease to my workload.

Rather than letting consumers have a false sense of security as they ask, they make it easier (or rather harder) to... enforce quality control on our own tastes' sense of quality control. This is in fact empowering consumers long-term. Valve has the right idea.

It's why I don't use that browser extension by @seeeeew.de ; and encourage others not to as well. I know you mean well, but what you have done is, in fact, created a false sense of quality assurance. My Muse Hunting shall be, funnily enough, 100% human-done.

There are 100% people lying about it, so trusting a ✅ blindly amounts to cognitively offloading your own brain's internal Quality Control to determine what is sloppy for yourself. ...heh. sound familiar?

Valve knew what they were doing. They know that a simple toggle carries an implicit guarantee of accuracy that they cannot provide, especially not at scale. The problem is the exact same moving target as content moderation.

I am seeking #Twitch streamers that stream BOTH comm illustration AND playing indie games in a roughly balanced measure Message me if you fit that description It is hard to find people at the INTERSECTION of these 2 thing just by trawling #vgen #streamer #commission #art #illustration #indiegame 🎮 💜

I get the sentiment, but taken too far this leads to what I call "nostalgia fetishization" — intentionally doing things the "ye old" way out of blind faith to an aesthetic without understanding why it was done, how to do it well, and to the detriment of a game as it is in the present.

Well said — I always say since one cannot separate Art from Artist... One must never ASSOCIATE the two in the first place.

“this person is bad so their work was always bad” is also a really dangerous view to take because it leads to - unconscious or not - a bias towards “but I do like this other person’s work, ergo they must be a good person” which, as we have seen over and over, is simply not true

QRP with your most popular bsky piece! Blanksword Spoke to a lot of people, it deserves it.

Reminder that the deadline is in a week! Please share with all #gamedev s who keep building out their games! #indiedev #steam #steamfest

Muse Hunter Relma@relma2.bsky.social

Calling every #gamedev and #indiedev I am hosting my first-ever Steam Fest, "Not Built in a Day"! For games released a while ago yet still continued to improve, this is your 2nd chance! Deadline Aug 30 tally.so/r/9qY2jQ

Also: The cutoff dates are flexible -- if your game will be just shy of 18 months in December or your major update will come out between now and December -- apply anyway!

Again posting this reminder for this #NextFest Please keep your demo up. Nobody has time to play everything in a week.

Muse Hunter Relma@relma2.bsky.social

Your biannual reminder to all #indiegame s on #SteamNextFest to NOT TAKE YOUR DEMO DOWN after the event! Don't do it. Don't f-king do it. It's not worth disappointing people who happen to have lives. If you do it I will leave a strongly worded post on your game's forum.

Aha! Great tip for #indiegame #marketing this #NextFest: Streamers appear to be treating Next Fest as "Demo season" in general, so even if your game is not participating in this Next Fest, they are usually open to giving it a play anyway! It's great, since a game can only officially participate in 1

The problem with #genAI is that programmers draw a very important distinction between the technology itself and the financial bubble and creatives conflate them constantly. In a field like #gamedev where the two meet, arguments and friction ensue. It's frustrating -- how can we even bridge this gap?

Reordering Collections on @itch.io is so frustrating. You can only shift the entries one at a time in one specific part of the itch UI. It is so close to being a viable spot to make curated selections... #indiegame #storefront #itchio #uiux

PSA: #Canvas is actually #opensource. Institutions can (and imo should) self-host a Canvas. The reason this recent #ransomware f***ed over everyone is because none of y'all did that. STFU about Instructure "owning" our data and stop relying solely on Someone Else's Computer.

So apparently I have... an #Epstein Number of 2. I once attended a gathering where a keynote speaker had *themselves* attended a conference organized by the Nonce himself. Not really a badge of honor like one's #ErdosNumber... but I suppose we all have one now. What's y'all's? #mathsky #AcademicSky

I have this sneaking feeling they *did* independently come up with a "PomBOMB" and then had to hastily retool it. ...My sibling in Arceus just scrap it and start over like ya' did with that Flying Eeveelution draft.

After querying my LLM of choice, I have found @snorre.io 's thing. From my understanding it's less "ATProto comment section" and more "janky script that copypastes a bluesky thread on the article page" and also you have to give it an app password. bsky.app/profile/snor...

I finally finished an MVP of my ATProto and Bluesky based comment system. It is implemented as a client-side JavaScript app that can be embedded on my static blog post pages. It renders via Solid.js and uses the official ATProto client to fetch threads, post likes, replies, etc. Pretty satisfied.
