How do cells decide what they are? And how flexible that identity can be? A new study from María Gómez lab at @csic.es revealed that a subtle change in the speed of gene transcription can dramatically enhance a cell’s ability to revert to a stem-like state. Read more here: 10.1126/sciadv.adz6211

Highlights from the Egmond DNA Repair meeting: Julien shared our work, Sidak and Stella brought nice posters—and both got invited to give short talks. And the cherry on top? Stella won the Best Poster Prize, congrats! A pretty great week for the lab 🏆

Our first bachelor student successfully defended her thesis! An impressive piece of lab work paired with a clear, engaging defence and discussion. Congrats! Many thanks to Panos Galanos (SDU) for serving as external examiner and for the thoughtful evaluation. Welcome to the academic club, Amélie!

This Tuesday, RepliFate Fellows traded pipettes for pitch decks in a full-day #entrepreneurship workshop hosted by Lead Discovery Center GmbH. 💡A great opportunity for our fellows to think differently about impact, #innovation, and #business development.

It is not always safe to repair DNA Damage. Sometimes, cells "just bypass it". During DNA replication, repair of lesions on DNA can be dangerous. Cells instead "tolerate" DNA damage and focus on finishing replication. Read our review and find out why and how: doi.org/10.1016/j.ti...

This unique collaboration aims to spark new dialogues between scientific research 🧬 and contemporary art 🎭, culminating in experimental works and public engagement activities that translate complex biology into compelling artistic experiences.

Our lab’s a little more crowded (and a lot more curious) this week! 🧠🐸 We’re thrilled to welcome @RepliFate students for a hands-on course in Xenopus egg extracts. They're diving into the Xenopus world and learning how this powerful system helps us explore DNA replication and genome stability.

Great initiative from the CSIC! We're proud to see RepliFate science shared with the public on #EuropeDay2025 — science belongs to everyone!

Today we celebrated #EuropeDay2025 showing the work we do at the RepliFate Doctoral Network in the public library Eugenio Trías @cbm-csic-uam.bsky.social @genomefun.bsky.social

It’s time for new duo: Julius Thomas & his PI Lorenza Penengo from the University of Zurich. They study the ISG15 system in DNA replication—but there’s more! One could be found scaling alpine peaks, while the other might just trade the lab for the thrill of mushroom hunting. Curious to know more? 🍄

Ever wondered where a scientist spends most of their time in the lab? Or what they would be doing if they weren’t researchers? We are excited to launch a series introducing the RepliFate researchers driving innovation in DNA Replication and Cell Fate.

You are up to date.
