Done voted today and dropped off the balots. Sure do like how easy it is to do this in Seattle. Back in TN and MS it was awful every time I had to do it.

Was on the train last night coming from the club and was hearing some students one trying to beg off access to chat GPT to another and saying it was too expensive. I was drunk and a little ornery and was still in my fit because it was the cyberpunk night. Said my peace

Leaned into the punk angle, "corpos want you to not be able to do calculus yourself. Punk is being able to do your own math and tell them to fuck off" When they left, felt like the kid got it, ended with "remember, fuck the corpos" and I felt good. Like I kept someone's brain from turning to mush.

Like maybe it made an influence to have some dolled up cybergoth transfemme on the train took him to school on education practices and alttech as a way to stick it to the man. I know it's dumb, but damn I wanted to do something useful. Even if it was small.

That it was a bunch of corporate trash and there's better options. Kid looked surprised that I told them I had a few local systems that I rigged myself but it's no substitute from do it yourself. He seemed shocked, like local systems for his peeps was stuff that only wizards and shit do.

He asked me if they could do his calculus homework. His friends clowned on him. I said "Maybe, with the right tool packages and skills, but you need to know how to do this yourself to see if what it makes is bullshit. That and come test time you don't want to show up and look like a dumbass ya?"

Stares in Dolly, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Billie Rae Cyrus, Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, TJ Osbourne, Darius Rucker, and a long ass list. The fascists don't own country.

Ezra Klein asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about AI making kids worse at math and reading. Huang’s reply: “Does it matter?” Then he said he doesn’t know his own address or phone number. “We’re going to lose some fine intellectual dexterity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/o...

Should find out if I have a job by the 28th. It's a really good one and I'll have money to spend on bots again. Got some cool ideas involving single piece flanged metal designs with TPC trim pieces to cover where the hull has holes for slotting.

Hoping these interviews I've been busting my butt on the last week pans out. If so I will be gainfully employed again after over six months of being unemployed. It's rough out there.

Why the hell would I use their tech? It is so hard to get a raw LLM to be harnessed in and with enough secondary software and guardrails to make it remotely useful and not a sycophant For non technical people? Like giving a child a loaded gun.

ghost malone ergo propter bones@proptermalone.bsky.social

i am reasonably confident that i could figure out a way any person on Bluesky could use a $20 OpenAI or Claude subscription to improve some aspect of their life in fifteen minutes of talking through it, if they're willing to try in good faith

Really thinking at this point doing consulting at this point. All the analyst gigs right now are miserable and I'm beginning to think I've been out of the game in IT long enough the corpos got better options even though I use modern stuff all the time.

Software is out too. I do open source and personal stuff but I'm too experienced to be a junior and Ive been away from professional software engineering for so long again better choices

Was pricing out some parts for a PC build for a friend and this rampocalypse and inflation makes budget building a real pain in the butt. Was able to build a really nice rig for under 1500 bucks. But I had to use AM4 and DDR4 and last gen card to do it. Hopefully it lasts until 2032 for him.

Got to see the Nier concert at the orchestra tonight. It was fantastic. They had the original vocalists and everything. Got to see Yoko Taro being a weird little guy as well it was great.

Pretty sure I have accidently set up a barter system with the local crows where I leave them a whole peanut and they bring me cigarette butts. Keeps the neighborhood clean I guess 🤷‍♀️

This weekend when I was at Opensauce I noticed that nobody was interested in the big dumb next gen Hummer electric, but folks went wild for the little Telo truck. The transmasc guy that was explaining the stuff on I loved his whole vibe. I hope it takes off.

Open Sauce was really fun. Weren't able to fight on second day due to a misunderstanding and a really good battery hit that stopped all the fights and Bot Hockey. Still got to see some really cool hacker tech and make new friends. Weather is great driving back to Seattle as well.

Check the bags, it will state if the salad or lettuce came from Taylor farms. Its more than possible to avoid them, especially if you get stuff from a farmers market where you can avoid corpos.

I was this many years old when I found out the reason my USB3 bus started to throw random errors in Linux and my headset would act erratically and crash my whole USB stack. Turns out Razer's transmitter will do weird interference with certain USB hubs and makes the controller think it's dying.

Was able to figure it out and it's health sensor not panic and now the only reason I ever reboot this computer now is because a trillion dollar company that built its empire on Linux GPUs doing stupid heavy compute can't be assed to make their power management scripts not suck.

Now this is how you juice a construction industry and go green. Story had them doing a plan for 3 gigawatts of storage using this in places where pumped hydro isn't as useful. 4 days of grid storage with recycled concrete is really cool.

Boing Boing@boingboing.net

China built a 40-story tower that banks wind power by hoisting giant concrete blocks, then dropping them when the grid needs juice. A skyscraper-sized battery with no lithium in it.

You get a real feeling for how much a knob Pickett was for how he acted during the pig war when you visit the San Juans. He really wanted to do war of 1812: 2 pig edition

pickett's charge is one of the stupidest military maneuvers ever ordered and I do not have to die on that hill because so many confederates did it for me

Really want more folks to do sportsman 30s. They are big and silly and low kinetic attacks so less likely to have everything explode randomly. *Less likely, not zero. I blow stuff up regularly because I drive with no chill and cheap ESCs hate that*

Ibn Battuta (1304-1368) was a Muslim Berber-Moroccan scholar and explorer who travelled the Old World. His travels totaled 117,000 km (72,000 miles). That's further than any other pre-modern person went. This map shows his route. What a life! Source: buff.ly/3qupR3y

Saw the Digital Circus movie last night. I had a good time. I will also respect the Fish's wishes. Audience was half kids and parents and half adult nerds.

It's funny the strategy work in global justice was how I basically do my Terra Invicta runs. Its easy to get buy in for factions if you reduce global inequality. Oddly enough, one of the evilest supremacy factions has reversing climate change as a goal. Because what's the point of ruling a tomb?

Thomas Piketty@thomaspiketty.bsky.social

What would it take to achieve high prosperity and equality while remaining within planetary boundaries? The World Inequality Lab is very excited to launch the #GlobalJusticeReport. [1/7]

It's an economy and world politics sim that also has Aliens in a weird way. Depending on how you play it, it's basically Oligarchs and NGO simulator.

Oh yeah, robot nerds! Events im going to be at this summer June 19-21st, nationals in salt lake city. Open Sauce July 17-19. San Francisco August 22nd Robothon in caphill Seattle at the punk rock flea market building, alongside the Seattle robotics association Big summer!

Seattle trans peeps, dumb question. I gotta bunch of clothes I want to donate me and my wife can't fit in anymore. I want to give them to my peeps in the trans community in particular because the regular avenues push us away. Ideas? Already washed and such. Just want them gone

Me, with some nice roses in my house: cat wants to eat them. Put deterent spray on them, she looks at me like I just betrayed her lol

I feel this in my bones. Before I transitioned, I was rapidly ascending and on my way to becoming a big wheel in IT for a big electronics company out of Asia. Got the Milton from office space treatment (make the job miserable for a load bearing person until they quit)

Spooky Neighborhood Spider-Menace@icanfly42.bsky.social

As a trans woman I had the I guess novel experience of being like a magical coding prodigy in the eyes of my peers and managers right up until I transitioned, then was "under-performing" and put on a PIP fairly soon afterwards. The shift was pretty jarring
