Eight years ago, 11 worshippers were killed and six others were wounded in a mass shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue. Today, we honor and remember the lives each victim.

As reaffirm our commitment to denouncing and ending antisemitism, hate crimes and hate speech, we must continue to promote empathy, compassion and acceptance in our communities.

On Tuesday, a few members of my team had the pleasure of participating in the annual 9th Grade Community Day at Norristown Area High School! Over 800 students were able to connect with local organizations, government offices, clubs and more.

At my table, my amazing staff created an interactive display about government and civics, where students could answer a question and win a prize. Thank you to Norristown for welcoming my team on this beautiful fall day.

In Harrisburg on Monday, my colleagues and I spoke at a road salt pollution awareness event hosted by Stroud Water Research Center and Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Road Salt is in our creeks, wells, and natural waterways throughout Pennsylvania.

I highlighted the Perkiomen Mapping & Flood Mitigation study that was completed over the past two years to help us understand the impacts on infrastructure, housing, and the environment, and how my bill with Rep Ben Sanchez, Road Salt Management (HB 664), will help to reduce excess road salt use.

I’m pleased to share that my resolution, HR 581, advanced from the PA House Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee yesterday by a vote of 26-0. The resolution will now move to the PA House floor for consideration.

Often these events are traumatic, emotional and physically demanding. However, medicolegal death investigation professionals remain compassionate and comprehensive to ensure that victims and families receive dignity, respect and justice.

We truly appreciate the work that all our medicolegal death investigations professionals do here in PA. I’d like to personally thank our own Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and Dr. Janine Darby for her advocacy and support of this resolution, ensuring that “last responders” are recognized.

My resolution would recognize January 24-30, 2027, as Medicolegal Death Investigation Professionals Week in Pennsylvania to honor the important, sensitive and professional work they do.

This should never be reality for any child, any teacher, any school community. And unfortunately, we've experienced this as a nation far too often. The shooting at Silver Rail Elementary is reported to be the 36th on K-12 school grounds in the U.S. this year alone, and the 52nd overall.

We can't be numb to this. We can't glance at those numbers as they come through our newsfeeds and keep scrolling. We need to take a hard look at our priorities as a society because our country's fixation on guns appears to be more important than the lives of children and teachers in our schools.

As painful as it is, we must let that sink in and not be numb to it: three children, a five-, eight- and 11-year-old, and one teacher, were killed by gun violence in their special education classroom. Others are critically wounded, and an entire community will now carry the trauma of this tragedy.

I’m pictured here with Rep. Steve Malagari, Director of the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library Karen DeAngelo, Director of the Lansdale Public Library Mindy Lee Lipsky, PA Library Association President Richard Ashby Jr. and PA Library Associate Executive Director Christi Buker.

Last week in Harrisburg, my colleagues and I gathered on the steps of the Capitol Rotunda with the Pennsylvania Library Association to celebrate our libraries, librarians and acknowledge the vital role they serve in our communities.

The story of my life includes librarians and libraries, specifically the Free Library of Philadelphia. Literacy opens up a breadth of opportunities in life, and my own experience ignited a lifelong love for reading that led me into the Air Force Academy, higher education, and onto my career path.

I joined my colleagues by the Capitol fountain last week as we continue our recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Harrisburg and across Pennsylvania. I previously spoke about the importance of early detection, and how vital it is to take a proactive approach to your healthcare.

Breast cancer, at any stage, changes lives forever. So, while it’s critical that routine screenings take place and that the public is educated about breast cancer, it’s just as important that we emphasize efforts to fund research to find a cure and end this disease.

You know your body best, and while yearly screenings are important, so is visiting your doctor when something else seems different. Early detection can mean better prognosis and quicker access to treatment.

But early detection doesn’t always mean that there will be fewer treatments, impact or trauma from breast cancer. Many women (and men) who did catch their diagnosis early still live with its aftermath.
