New from @natasharoy.bsky.social: What 'Love is Blind' cast gets right—and wrong—on abortion

Rewire News Group@rewirenewsgroup.com

Love Is Blind rarely pushes back on abortion misinformation. This season, a cast member did. John Shannon asked why anyone would have an abortion at six months “because you just, like, never got around to it.” Sarah Williams, a health-care manager, set him straight. By @natasharoy.bsky.social.

I love editing young reporters. In this collab w/ @fullerproject.org, Maia Capuano asked her fellow UGA students about the GA governor's race. Turns out, they're not much focused on the remote possibility that a Dem wave could overturn the state's abortion ban. They have more kitchen table concerns.

rewirenewsgroup.comIn Georgia Election, Affordability Beats Abortion for Student VotersThe governor’s race between Keisha Lance Bottoms and Rick Jackson is a toss-up. We asked University of Georgia students about the issues that matter to them in 2026.

Four years after Georgia’s abortion ban took effect, just 2% of Georgians ages 18 to 29 named abortion their top concern in a June survey. Cost of living ranked first overall. And with the governor’s race tied statistically, young voters could decide it.

As part of our Campus Dispatch series, we collaborated with @fullerproject.org to ask University of Georgia students which issues matter most to them this election. Affordability is taking priority over abortion for Georgia’s student voters, despite the strict ban there and in surrounding states.

Laws permitting abortion up to fetal viability are still abortion bans for the people who hit the viability limit while they’re trying to scrape up money to pay for an abortion. And new research suggests that voters don’t even need the limit to support abortion access. 🎧 New Baby Boom! Lawyered.

Breast cancer awareness month usually comes with pink ribbons and mammogram reminders. And that's all well and good. But the reality is that while a breast cancer diagnosis is life-changing, it's often just the start of a longer journey that's often invisible. rewirenewsgroup.com/2026/10/19/a...

What happens after active treatment for breast cancer ends? Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy can take a serious toll on survivors’ physical and emotional health. A growing number of providers are working to improve follow-up care. Story from @cameronoakes.bsky.social.

Texas passed a law that lets total strangers sue anyone who mails or hands over abortion pills. Students for Life and its president Kristan Hawkins lobbied for the bill. Now a Texas mother is suing Hawkins and three staffers under it. The reason is almost too perfect.

And by "new" White House press secretary, we apparently meant "former" press secretary: NYT is reporting that Katie Zacharia is out after five days.

Abortion is on the ballot in Nevada. If passed next month, Question 6 would add reproductive rights to the state constitution. Ahead of the vote Las Vegas reporter Jason Collins asked a doctor, researcher, and activists about the state of abortion care in Nevada—and how it’s changed since Roe fell.

The Comstock Act sat asleep for a century. Now anti-abortion groups want an 1873 anti-obscenity law championed by a man who hoarded dildos—yes really!—to ban abortion nationwide. All it takes is an AG willing to enforce it and five justices willing to let him. New Baby Boom! Lawyered. Out now.

There isn't a single trans woman in the WNBA. In 2024, the NCAA estimated fewer than 10 of its 510,000 athletes were trans—about 0.002%, or 1 in 51,000. Yet trans athletes are a defining culture war issue of the 2026 midterms. It's a manufactured panic, writes @angryblacklady.blacksky.app.
