Just saw this amazing image of Tetsuya Chiba holding omnibus 4 of Kodansha USA's English release of Ashita no Joe. I can't help but see his face & imagine he's thinking "Took you Americans THIS long to finally release my manga in English, huh? Well, better late than never." RIP

😥 Rest in peace to an absolute MASTER of manga art. It's been such a special pleasure to work with Chiba's art on Ashita no Joe... to be able to examine his linework, tones, angles, & visual "mood" up close & in great detail. His art is truly beautiful & has a real depth. A real inspiration.

Some folks (including licensors!) have this idea that the only people who will read classic manga are collectors, but we think there are digital readers who will fall in love with The Sword of Paros, Georgie, and Delinquent Detective: Sukeban Deka when they can try them out via a subscription!

I have been so excited to tell you about this. It's another gorgeous deluxe edition of a classic shoujo!

🚨 NEW LICENSE ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨 Georgie by Mann Izawa and Yumiko Igarashi Follow a spirited young girl from the Australian countryside to England on a quest to find her roots. This classic 1982 shojo masterpiece is coming to print in two gorgeous deluxe editions!

As someone who’s covered (and is covering) the ruinous effects of AI across our industry, I fully denounce this advertorial piece. I stand with my editorial and news colleagues at ANN who’ve had their reputations sullied due to this grievous lapse in advertorial judgment.

Reminder that advertising and editorial are completely siloed from each other at ANN. I'm as disappointed as anyone else to see this on the feed.

After watching the first two episodes of Edgerunners II, I’m inclined to say that playing 2077’s opening act helps with sorting out the world state. At least in how it relates to the cast Usually not a fan of homework, but it kinda works here if you see it as a separate tabletop campaign

Kinda flows back into the homework part of Edgerunners II, but feels a little more natural than my hazy memory of the first season. Season one has a “man, look at our brand” energy a la Arcane that didn’t gel with me. Don’t get me wrong, achievements in animation, but maybe not storytelling.

We’ll see if Edgerunners II falls into that “the brand” camp for me. Admittedly it had sapped my interest in the series, but I got a little curious between Imahori’s new score and having played a bit of the functioning game.

Also having recently played a bit of the now-functioning 2077, I’m mixed on it. The game works well once you’re in it and going, but all the talk of “legends” falls flat. If you’re throwing me of into the deep end of new world, you’ve gotta give me context clues other than “dude was so cool”

It’s a wonderful day for a bike ride…

Brandon points out one of the most vital skills for a manga letterer. Retouching art is something to approach in steps. Fully white out the JP text and isolate that area. Get the broad strokes like boundaries out of the way before doing any detail work.

Brandon Bovia@brandonbovia.bsky.social

Here's a look at how I handle some of these big sweeping crowd shots. If you look at the English SFX laid over the art before I retouch it, you see a lot of gaps where I need to fill in the crowds. Clone tool makes quick work of these, but it's important to establish the borders (highlighted red)—

Serious kudos to CyGames. Most huge companies would never do this, especially now, but it’s heartening to see that someone on high on the chain here apparently went “we gotta make this right to the best of our ability.”

There are a handful of bigger book outlets that won't review our books bc we do not work with large traditional book distributors. Its complicated but if you've read any of our books recently, please leave a review on goodreads it's basically like steam reviews but for our books, ok tysm!!!
