Very random retro things from me, Rik. I dabble with a lot of vintage computers, retro games, consoles, hand helds, and more. Some might even say that's a lot of random retro things. youtube.com/c/riksrandomretro

This is painful. The trailer looks like everything I'd want in another Mass Effect. Maybe there is hope someone is able to buy the IP and pick it up?

Can confirm that this is a real trailer of the Mass Effect game that BioWare was developing up until its closure yesterday www.reddit.com/r/masseffect...

I've spent more time thinking about this, and I know a closure doesn't erase the games and experiences we've had, but looking back at it, how many times I've just dropped myself into Bioware worlds and gotten lost. Dragon Age and Mass Effect possibly having seen their end is a sad realization.

I'm really sad about the news that Bioware is being shut down. I had assumed the worst when the sale of EA finalized, and they took on a ton of debt to finance it. The studio may have stumbled lately, but made some of my most favorite games ever. Thanks for all the great memories.

I had to back this when I saw it. Ambitious and bonkers. Hoping it makes it into market!

Eldemar - A new first-person RPG / Action game for the Amiga with music Allister "Demon" Brimble (KICKSTARTER) www.indieretronews.com/2026/10/elde... ( NEW GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE ) #amiga #retrogaming #kickstarter

I had a blast with the stream last night exploring the old internet. Like always the dedication and passion people have giving us these retro experiences is fantastic. This is showcased in the oldbeige.net site, which allows download of old software/games direct to your vintage computer. Amazing!

This is just awful. You may gain some short level of attention, but that discourages the development of new ideas that benefit the community in the long run. Incredibly dumb and short sighted, just for some internet clout. Support the original devs!

Me: work on something for a few months Me: tell someone about it, just a few tech details <few days later> Them: fed it into claude and built it and published it. Can't even talk to people anymore...

Gotta get that Netscape experience too. This will be a staple on all my retro machines that support it.

This is so cool. I rigged up my retro network to be able to hit the internet. With the help of Protoweb, I'm now browsing the Internet ca mid 90s. This is the 3dfx homepage from back when. Even configured to simulate a 56k modem. Glorious!

Accelerator installed. The A2000 is running fantastic. Check the benchmark, and I think that's a project complete? Anything else to do besides capture this red bar? Pretty sure that's it!

Life has been a bit hectic as of late, but I managed to get in some Amiga time last night. Exploring different demos and their awesome music is always a treat.

Like everyone else is saying this is very difficult to narrow down. But looking more at games that had an impact, or ones I played at important points in my life... this is as close as I can get!

Almost 2 years ago I put myself on the wait list for the Dicke Olga Amiga 2000 accelerator. It just arrived after that long wait, and boy is it a beast of a card! Looking forward to boosting that A2000 further than it's ever been!

Now that's one I've been waiting for. The box is really beat up, but the price was low as a result. I'll clean it up, and happily have it on the shelf. Hail to the king, baby!

I tried this at VCF Midwest on a real Atari system thanks to Power of Vintage, which had it ready to try out. Runs remarkably well (on an accelerated system)!

Of all the things I saw at VCF Midwest, this immediately caught my eye. Many of you might know this is my grail, my first real computer. Sadly this one wasn't for sale, but it was awesome to even see one in person again. So many memories associated with it. Terrific!

Another VCF Midwest in the books. It's always the retro highlight of the year. Met a lot of friends, new and old, and got to see a lot of cool stuff. A great time as always, and already looking forward to next year!

VCF Midwest is massive, even larger than last year. Definitely feels like the calm before the storm, but I've already been able to see some cool stuff, and talk with a lot of people. Tomorrow might be just a tad busy!

I'll be leaving to head to VCFM Midwest tomorrow morning. Looking at the table map and the list of exhibitors, I'm overwhelmed. I'm sure it'll be a great time, but the event has grown immensly. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again, and check out some sweet retro gear!

20 years indeed. In retro terms 20 years before when we got married the NES was just a year old. Happy Anniversary/being really old!

Kate@geekate.bsky.social

Wait how did we get old enough to be celebrating our 20th Anniversary? The math…well unfortunately it does math. 👵🏻👴🏻 @riksrandomretro.com

Having the Corneria theme, the takeoff part, hit right as I get on an on ramp heading home from work, as the turbo kicked in. All by chance in my playlist. I'll be riding that high for a while!

After we fought with some odd display issues on stream last night, with the output flickering in and out even on capture, I did some more testing. Turns out it's my new flat panel I'm using for streaming. Not the computer, not the splitter. Sometimes it's the things you least expect... technology!

My steam controller finally arrived, and while I was excited, it unfortunately had some scrapes and scuffs on it. I can overlook quite a bit, but if I'm spending this much on it, I want to have it as close to new as possible. Valve thankfully is doing a replacement for me. Fingers crossed!

Something we discuss at home actually, considering we have PCs and consoles mixed. While we trend toward PC, you cannot argue with the ease of use of the console experience. Buy system, buy your game (and yes likely update), but then you play. That's it. I'd say more appealing to most people vs PC.

Kate@geekate.bsky.social

Kind of…but also not exactly. Yes kids play Roblox etc for the social aspect but there are lots of young gamers who play AAA titles & most of their parents aren’t about to research a gaming PC. Much easier for them to buy a console - in fact I think this is a huge market for digital only games.. 1/X

I think everyone knew this day would come. As primarily a PC gamer, I've been ok with digital games for years, but consoles feel different somehow. Being able to share games among the kids easily on Switch as one example, is a reason we buy physical. Not great. share.google/rVFWgzcPQBBn...

When your coworkers know you, and what you like. On my desk this morning was a Gateway 2000 bundled software binder, ca 1996, and some memory. Their cleaned trash is my treasure. Hits like Encarta, Golf, and Julia Child Home Cooking with Master Chefs. I'll happily take these!
