Buckle up, friends. This is going to be a thread. A thread of thanksgiving, my gratitude for the people of the city and the province I love. The people who stood united to defeat a dark and narrow vision of Alberta's future. The people who stood in defence of Canada. 🧵 #Alberta #Canada #yeg

IMO the UCP has been touting antibike legislation coming in Nov for 3 reasons. 1. Create a distraction from other things 2. Fires up their base 3. Nov is a cold month when the “nobody bikes in winter” lands with people on the fence #yycBike and #yegBike get those winter tires on this weekend! 😉

In this article Williams claims that Johnston will maintain confidentiality going forward... But just below that Johnston states he will 100% do it again. This man needs to be prohibited from confidentiality information as he openly admits he will share whatever he wants.

Hey folks - is there a CANADIAN app or web page to analyse the nutritional facts of a food or recipe? A good 15 years ago there was one on the Canadian dietitians web page, but I cant find it anymore.

So, Alberta: story time I just paid about $1200 dollars cash for a medication that WAS covered by the Govt of Alberta “non-group” Blue Cross health insurance without authorization (for which I pay premiums). It’s been covered for years. My workplace Blue Cross plan does not cover it & has denied

Aw, the kids are all right... 2 boys with bikes down on sidewalk. Stopped to check. One had had his foot slip off his pedal, ended up with a minor wound on his ankle. 1 buddy keeping him company, a 2nd gone home tonget a bandaid and a 3rd pulling up and asking if ok...

Whatcha lookin at buddy? Beaver active in broad daylight is unusual for me. Multiple beaver in the colony were crossing a path to harvest an aspen and take it to their cache. I was watching one drag a branch about 10m away when this one came out of the water less than 2m away.

Ride safe friends.

🧵 For 3 years Critical Mass has held monthly rides with 3 goals in mind: 1. Celebrate cycling + other active transport 2. Protest the lack of physical + social infra that allows for safe travel 3. Create a safe environment to cycle by empowering participants to look out for one another.

And I am old enough to remember that six of the American diplomats who evaded capture by the militants were saved by Canadians.

The US has a dark history of unaccountability.

It's called propaganda. That US media spreads it as gospel is the problem

Save the CBC 🇨🇦✌️@savethecbc.bsky.social

🇨🇦 The White House says Canada has a “record of abuse” on trade. CBC fact-checkers found major missing context: unemployment is 6.4%, U.S. dairy enters tariff-free within quota, and Canada’s auto tariff answered an equivalent U.S. tariff. In a trade war, facts matter.

Thank you, Prime Minister

Mark Carney@mark-carney.bsky.social

For over a year, Canada has worked intensively and in good faith with the United States to negotiate a new comprehensive trade deal. We have been pragmatic, patient, and persistent. Our goal has always been to get the best deal for Canadians, never a deal at any price or on any time frame.

The crazy thing about this is people are getting offers to install solar panels on $0 up front "deals" that result in panels costing 3-4 times what I paid 3 years ago!.

Heads up - Alberta Parks is repaying the pathway in Fish Creek PP. Currently it is not possible to travel from Votiers to Glennfield (i.e. under the railway and Macleod Tr bridges). The detour coming from Votiers takes you on a nice scenic loop back to Votiers 😄 #yycbike #yycwalk #yyc #calgary

Check out this little nugget of cuteness. iNaturalist suggests a meadow vole, but pictures they offer show critters with noses... so we have decided it is the Soon To Meet It's Demise Vole as 4 people and a dog observed it closely for a couple minutes and it did not stop eating its snack

My helmet - really? Not going to help much when an enormous pickup runs me over cuz they didn't see me. As for the rest - sharing the path, adjusting to conditions - valid, but those are the issues that injure cyclists. How about more separated lanes for cyclists instead of "thoughts and prayers"

Aw... heart filling.

🧵 1/x Gather round for the tale of Lonely Bob. Last year, this Piping Plover showed up & unsuccessfully tried to woo already paired females. When that didn’t work, he courted our shorebird monitor. He eventually left. This year, he returned & seemed destined for a summer of sadness again… #birds

Oh and perhaps law enforcement of existing rules and laws that say that e-bikes and stuff that is throttle controlled and goes more than 30km/h are illegal on pathways, and need motorcycle licensing?

That's a big number. Where does it come from? How many of these injuries were on pathways (which is what the first post applies to) versus how many were the results of motor vehicles andnthe actions of their drivers?

This is good info, but here's an idea, Canada - maybe get over the idea that you need to eat lettuce 365 days of the year. Eat what is fresh and in season and local. You will be shocked by how good a fresh local carro can taste

This is very sad for her and her family. It raises a question - will there be a spike in deaths of assisted living residents who were evacuated as their bodies fail to adapt to the stress of the abrupt evacuation.

Excellent words - thanks for sharing them Senator

It isn't enough to stay in touch with our friends and family. We need to continually find ways to engage socially and make new friends - because everyone dies. It doesn't just take a village to raise children - a village is needed to grow old well too.

Well this provided excellent inspiration for our latest #dinorama. @ratliw.bsky.social

We've created native gardens in our yard but won't get rid of the hollyhocks because we love watching the bumblebees on them.

Will Ratliffe@ratliw.bsky.social

I am just calling them all bombus pulvurulentus. We have hit peak hollyhock, and the bumblebees are going wild. Happy to hear actual identifications. @thebeeguy.bsky.social @loriweidenhammer.ca

It has taken a long time to personalise my new* bike, but Betty is looking pretty good. Thanks to calad.ca for the beautiful handlebar bag. *got in the fall to replace stolen bike then spent winter in storage.
