and shout out to our friends in @thepodkast.bsky.social who also recently did an episode on "The Slim Shady LP" which I somehow missed until after recording, but is very good.

Episode 84: Eminem's "The Slim Shady LP", or Hip-Hop's Most Nu-Metal Album. The music might not be nu-metal, but the spirit of it sure is, as Eminem tries to tap into the angst of the nu-metal zeitgeist with a massive record featuring two titanic hits. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/e...

Two days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks Serj Tankian of System of a Down posts the essay Understanding Oil to the band's website. Sony removes the essay amid claims Tankian was justifying the attacks and the band was monitored by the CIA for subversive activities (2001)

We unlocked our 9/11 episode last year, and to this day it's some of my favorite work we've ever done. There's an easy way to do 9/11 and nu metal, through cheap jokes and spectacle, but more powerful to sit with the specificity. Hope you'll listen.

Are people LSAT posting here too? Is it crazier to take it in October or November if I haven't started studying yet but can get 168-170 on the practice tests but I'm not 100% I'd want to go

In 1994, before the release of their debut album, one of Korn's first shows was a Rock for Choice abortion rights benefit. I recreated the poster as a batik.

starting a mail club where I promise you one bizarre essay about whatever I feel like per month, but sometimes the initial idea is half baked or I run out of time so you just get photocopies of my handwritten draft/notes and maybe those months cost extra

Last time I started seriously looking at a path to law school 3 members of my family had health crises and derailed the idea, but it suddenly occurred to me that entertainment law exists and now I'm looking again

Wild to see music journalism going the way of local newspapers, except instead of a Bezos or Alden Capital being the one strangling it, it's Good Charlotte

“Music publications BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Revolver, and Goldmine have been gutted by parent company Veeps... Nearly all the staff at each publication appear to have been laid off yesterday. Veeps, which is now owned by Live Nation, acquired the publications in 2024 or 2025”

The Odyssey is a cool experience, but I think sufferers from the fact that if you've had the kind of great books education it posits as good, you recognize that it should be the Aeneid.

Also a bit heavy handed of Nolan to have Odysseus look straight at the camera and say "in the future our story will only be heard because no one will be able to read" but after a week of takes, it's hard to say he's wrong.

look, whether you root for team USA or not, i think we can all agree the important thing is that you should feel like a sorry piece of shit 24 hours a day for deciding to be alive

Personally, I think 8 million albums is a totally reasonable number to sell off the strength of "How You Remind Me," but Chad Kroeger should have either called it quits there and gone out a one-hit wonder legend, or taken a vow of celibacy.

My freshman year roommate and I used to brew mead in our dorm room, sad to see traditions fading.

“We observed that, as opposed to their predecessors, young adults today seldom venture out to their local mead hall and socialize with tavern wenches,” said lead researcher Michael Kempe, noting that the study’s conclusions also align with a recent downswing in attendance at jousting matches.

They've got a navy guy on NPR saying America knows how to blockade the strait of hormuz because we blockaded the south during the civil war, gas is going to hit $20 a gallon

I've got a little piece in this thats part of the cover story, and what an incredible feeling to make a music video with your friends and then bam, it's on the cover of a magazine
